The rules are fairly simple here, we have a two sided topic and you just have to choose a side and present evidence why you chose that side. The topics will alternate and you can change sides. I will try and stay away from religious/inflammatory topics so dont post about them and respect other peoples beliefs.

First Topic: Most interesting to read. Fiction or Non-fiction?

Im starting small but we'll work our way up to more interesting topics. at the end ill tally the posts for each side and tell you who won and then we'll pick a new topic. feel free to suggest topics.

AS OF NOW: Just Choose between the Choice above you and Then make a new Choice.

Fiction. Hypothetical situations can lead to a helluva story(ex Cold War).

I suppose nonfiction. I find fiction too predictable, save for my own work.

See, w/ fiction it's nothing but lies.  Ppl. who become too involved in fiction surround themselves with lies. Eventually, their world becomes nothing but the lies that they've been told to believe in.  Non-F is kinda boring, true, but Fiction has limits. There are limits to what you can imagine, regardless of what you're told, while their are NO limits to reality.  As the world of Non-F expands and grows, Fiction grows right along behind it, leeching off of what is already there, and twisting it to become more interesting.

I'm a simple amishman. Last time I used a book was when I used the pages as kindling to start a fire in my woodstove.

Then what are you using a computer for?

And koda0, have you ever seen "How Willliam Shatner Star Treck Changed The World"? It's the closest thing to a counterpoint that I knew.

Still fiction.

@koda0: i must say you're right. I see now that fiction has limits, but, as you said, it is as limited as reality. Reality changes after we change it. what do you need for change? That's right. Imagination. so reality shapes around our imagination.

and, quoting smitty1931,

best books ever are fiction

I typed "counterpoint". I meant an example where the opposite of your opinion occurs. But oh well.

+1 more for fiction. If you love your cellphone, love fiction.

[quote]See, w/ fiction it's nothing but lies. quote]

Ah, reminds me of a quote from V for Vendetta:

Artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up.

That being said, I like fiction better, because it can be used to enhance (and mock) human tendancies, of which there are both good and bad.
