Demigod v1.3 is in testing

By on May 15, 2010 6:28:05 PM from JoeUser Forums JoeUser Forums

Greetings!

GPG has submitted to us version 1.3 of Demigod for testing. It addresses a whole bunch of outstanding issues that have been reported.

GPG has intimated to us that v1.3 is the beginning of a new series of free updates to Demigod.  I will have more details next week as it goes through QA.

You wouldn't believe how many people still don't believe this isn't coming. I have to say...they're starting to convince me.

Yeah, it's done when it's done. If they found an issue, the release of the patch will naturally be put off, until GPG had time to fix it. And since there is probably only one or two guys partially working on Demigod when it's needed, this can also take a long time. And then it has to be tested again, etc.

Check reply #87. You even have a GPG developer commenting. I wouldn't get too worried.

Any updates on the update?

Frogboy has been posting updates on the weekend when it comes to Demigods. Hopefully he will have nice things to say today.

And now I'm excited, thanks. Hopes raised.

ok here's the deal....

I left demigod in the first place coz everything took ages to come in whether it was a patch or.... hmmmmm. Nearly every milestone  of this game has been delayed (with us left in the dark, we were not answered at these times). People have a certain amount of patience and in todays day and age, majority of us have "NO" patience. I'd like to think i was very patient with demigod only until it got to the point where i got fed up and left to play other online games that were worked on more productively;

- balance patches/bug fixes (every couple of weeks)
- new content
- constant communication between devs and players (basically everything that changes or involves the game in any way)

Everyone here has the "it'll get done, when its done" attitude and thats starting to rlly p**s me off. I'm trying to get work in the gaming industry and every place that I apply for asks for "hardworking and able to meet the deadline" criteria. With demigod, it seems like there are no deadlines set... I'm a little confused...

I've come back to Demigod now several months down the track and see NO changes yet, ONLY a recently announced thread on v1.3. What is going on? (Please dont reply to this question, coz im not interested in what players have to say to it).

On a positive note, i believe this game has great potential still and thats why i keep coming back. It's a shame the game isnt given enough attention that it deservers (this game rlly couldve hit BIG!!!)

Deadlines for what exactly? The process goes like this: Stardock pays GPG to make x changes to the game. GPG delivers a patch for testing to Stardock. Stardock tests the game and maybe finds a few issues that they like GPG to change before the patch is released. etc.

Of course being able to meet deadlines in the gaming or software industry is important. But the business gets harder every year and even if you are a person that is able to meet deadlines, sometimes unforeseen issues come up which increases the development time for certain things, but since a deadline has to be met a quick solution has to be found, which could be sub par to what you would be able to develop, if you had time to go past the deadline. It's a vicious cycle

I agree, I think Demigod is sooo much better than its counter parts and even looks way better . But there probably is just not enough money available to make it a big hit.

There is mainly 2 things in demigod that annoys me.

1- The choice of making it p2p instead of server based.

2- Why does are character take a 0.5 sec approx to react to a command even when not playing online??  Other game respond almost instantly and they are online!@!

Personally I play a lot less because of point #1  because when someone lags, everyone lags. On server based, its not a issue.

I wonder if it is still possible to put this server based... (League of Legends in my mind...)

It takes 0.35 seconds for them to react, because of the built in net_lag of 350 ms, which enables you to play smoothly with anyone that has a stable ping <= 350 ms. This is there because of the synchronized environment. If this default net_lag was 100 ms for instance, you could only play with people who have pings under 100 ms to you.

For comparison: StarCraft has a similar "net_lag" value of 250 ms for online play and 100 ms for LAN play (though you can trick StarCraft to use the 100 ms value for online games too). WarCraft 3 also uses 350 ms, as far as I remember.

I'm going to assume that the delayed patch means it failed QA: that is "good" in that it means they aren't just going to release broken stuff like Occulus again.

True, but the thing is that the other game doesn't do this in single player mode...

This problem is a bit related to the #1.  if you r server side instead of p2p, your net_lag will be your ping. League of Legends is a good example of this. 5vs5 and the response time is approx to my ping (+-80 MS)

Yeah, but this means that not everyone is fighting on equal grounds . Unless LoL uses some latency prediction.

Hm... well if you are able to bring up the console, I think it is in fact simply "net_lag", but I am not sure. Haven't tinkered with this stuff in Demigod in a while, so I don't know if it's possible at all to change that value.

June 6, 2010 7:43:10 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Yeah maybe it was possible only back while I was in the beta...

I have to say I'm a little offended you'd call it nonsense. I mean this as no disrespect to Frogboy, but some of his posts have extended beyond the realm of just inaccurate. Beyond that, I have seen no indication of the motivation that GPG has to perform. A GPG rep has been posting, but I don't know his rank in the whole story. For all I know, he could be posting without permission. If that's the case, then there's no reason to believe anything would happen.

sorian is the or one of the devs from GPG who worked on this particular patch.

Here's what Sorian said on his blog on 5/6/2010

I have also spent a good chunk of this week working on Demigod fixes. Apparently Stardock has sent us a list of bugs they would like to see fixed, and I am happy to oblige. It gives me a reason to kick some AI butt with Demon Assassin on work hours. I did manage to fix a bug that has been bothering me since the last patch, which is nice. As per usual, I don't have a time frame. I am hoping a build gets put together tomorrow and then it will have to go through Stardock QA.

Frogboy created this thread on 5/16/2010.  Froggy also indicated that is would start going through QA the week of 5/23 or so.  Anyway, fingers still crossed for this week - even if its just bugfixes, it does breath a little life back.
