WinCustomize and Firefox 8

By on November 18, 2011 11:33:16 AM from WinCustomize Forums WinCustomize Forums

I seem to be having problems accessing the forum via Firefox 8. About 80% of the time clicking on the forum tab causes FF to stop responding.

This is only on the WC forum, no other website does this, including other Stardock websites such as SOaSE.

While I've been typing this (in IE) I've been trying again - 5 times = 5 'not responding' messages - make that a 100% failrate!

This gobbledygook is probably of no use, but I'll post it anyway:-

Have you tried disabling all the Add-ons in Firefox Fuzzy?

I've had no issues with FF8 and WC. Try Lightstars suggestion and go through your add-ons. You should be able to restart FF with all of them disabled just to do a quick check.

Tried FF in safe mode - no difference.

Went to look at a few DVDs etc on Play.com - same issue, pages not loading. On some pages f5 caused the page to load.

Uninstalled FF8, installed FF7 and disabled auto update. Everything is now working as it should.

Just curious, have you tried FF 9.0 yet Fuzzy?

I'm sure you looked around for a solution. Here's a couple you may have seen or not.

  • Zone Alarm Force Field is a possible culprit. If you run ZoneAlarm, all you would need is to clear it's cache.
  • Outdated plug-ins - Here's a link to Mozillas FF Plug-In Checker . I thought all of mine were up to date til I went there to get you the link. It might be worth checking.

No Zone Alarm, and running FF in safe mode disables all plug-ins.

Pages are loading a lot quicker in FF7... Hmm... I'll stick with this for a while - if it ain't broke and all that

Yeah, I'm not seeing any issues here.  Just give it a week, and Firefox 10 will be out.

And then a day after that, Firefox 11 will be out (gotta keep up with the Joneses! ).

Fuzzy... did you try re-installing (you probably did... just asking). And dl'ing only from mozilla.org?

The FF9 thing/Aurora might be more trouble than a simple re-install...

Good grief.

Just gonna borrow this thread rather than start a new one.

Since I "upgraded" to FF 8.0.1, the scroll to top arrow (the little arrow on the top right of every post) doesn't seem to be working anymore (WC forum).

Just for info, it does not work in IE9 either. Does not solve your problem but the "home" key on your keyboard will get you there!
