The content will remain as a historical reference, thank you.

Never really got an answer and original post went way off topic!

Are forum signatures turned off or am I just not seeing where to add one?

Do we need to just add a sig every time we post?

It was said in that thread that the forums don't support sigs and most likely never will.

Waste of space, imo.

You did get an answer, I believe... Jafo was the first to respond and said "No, it's a waste of server space" or something to that effect, as I remember.

However, there are no Forum signatures and no plans for any.

*edit: Was in chat, or would have beaten that derned Wiz. LOL.

And thank you for that, I don't care one bit about server space, it's a waste of FORUM space on the website. Useless, repetitive generic crap.

Thanks Heavenfall, the absence of crap like that is one of the reasons why I like reading these forums.

Can someone explain the purpose of signatures in the forums, if there is a purpose?

Isn't the Avatar to the left of each reply a signature?

sorry for the double post

1. To annoy people in general and me in particular.

2. To waste space on mindless, repetitive crap.

Gaming signatures that dynamically update with ones stats are fine for gaming sites. But here stats are pretty moot, don't need any more ego fluffing than is already in place.

All three times you have been answered early in the thread by members qualified to give an official response. In no thread have you replied to acknowledge receiving this information. Can we end this discussion now?

Honestly, you HAVE been answered. No need for a fourth post.

Not that I want to see the forums covered in sigs but maybe a thread where some of these creative folks could post what their sig might be if they had one? I never cared for them but I was always admired what went into making them. I would love to see what some of the folks around here would come up with.

If Bara & crew add a forum sig function, I'd want it to come with a Hide Sigs option. There's more than enough repetitive text and art in the world; I don't want to waste screen real estate with that stuff when I'm reading around Stardockia.

Used maturely, signatures are small and unintrusive and can be a great way for community members to link to something important to them.  Unfortunately, signatures very quickly become an arms race for the largest, most obnoxious banners and images allowable under the rules.  I can very much understand why such a feature wouldn't be forthcoming.
