Can no longer change my email address???

By on May 13, 2011 5:23:28 PM from GalCiv II Forums GalCiv II Forums

It seems that I'm no longer able to change the email address that's associated with my account.

There used to be a number of different ways to access your account information and based on the method of access there were different things you could do.

For example you used to be able to view and edit pretty much all your account information from within the Metaverse area (http://metaverse.galciv2.com/) under Account > Manage My Account, but while the pulldown menu entry is still in place it does nothing.

You still can access your account information from any of Stardocks "forum sites" (I only checked GalCiv2 and Elemental but I assume it's the same elsewhere) and your email is listed on the same page where you can change your username and password but you can no longer change your email address.

You also can still access your account information from one of Stardocks "blog sites" however it used to be that there were differences in what you could do there, now it's identical to everything else and as far as I can tell there's no ability to change my email address anywhere within Stardocks interconnected web sites.

So can anyone tell me (Bara?) how I can change my email address? I registered here with my ISP provided email address which will soon be deleted since I've just changed ISP's.

Mumblefratz, did you try different browsers? I very recently had the identical problem and was able to change my email through joeuser.com "My Account".

It appears 'broken' in Opera, and I haven't been able to log in at all with FireFox since its last big update.

Here's hoping it isn't a permanent IE dependency...

As I remember it, i used ie9 and it worked. Give it a try, Mumbles.

If it doesn't, You'll need to get on with [email protected]

Quoting DrJBHL,

I tried Joe User, Wincustomize, GalCiv2 and Elemental. I also tried IE8 and FF 3.6.17 but I don't want to install another browser just in the attempt.

Quoting Cavan1,
Third option here
This worked. Thanks.

For those that didn't follow Cavan1's link it goes directly to http://www.stardock.com/support/ where there are quick links to retrieve serial numbers of purchased products, create a new account, reset your password, change your email address and manage registrations on multiple accounts.

While all of this makes some amount of intuitive sense I still wonder why the ability to change your email was explicitly removed from being able to edit pretty much anything else about your account from *any* of Stardocks sites?

I mean what's so special about your email address that makes it more significant than your username or password?

Also why do you essentially need to re-activate your account to change your email address? Bara?

That too is something relatively new because I distinctly remember changing my email back and forth between my work and home email address with the click of a button and all I needed to supply was my password.

I suppose I could use a web based email account and then if I change ISP's I wouldn't need to change my email address however I've been using my previous email address for the last 15 years which as far as I know was before the existence of such sites. In any case I don't have any particular qualms about people knowing my "real" email address as opposed to an indirect webmail address.

FF 4 sucks from what I've heard which is why I've stayed with FF 3.6

Interestingly enough if you're aware of my history (as I'm sure GW is) FF is now my primary browser.

I'm pretty sure the email change option has been gone from the forums for a year or two at least.

Boy, time sure does fly.

Any idea why?

Just curious.
