April/May/June 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament - Results Thread

By on April 21, 2010 9:33:32 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

This thread has been created for the purpose of tracking results in the April/May 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament.

Current status:  WINNER! - King_Of_Thorns + Zen_God

Round 1a began at 5PM on 4/21/2010 and ended at 11:59PM EST on 4/30/2010.

Round 1b began at Midnight on 5/1/2010 and ended at 11:59PM EST on 5/7/2010.

Round 2 began at Midnight on 5/8/2010 and ended at 11:59PM EST on 5/23/2010.

Round 3 (SEMIFINALS) began at Midnight on 5/24/2010 and will end at 11:59PM EST on 5/30/2010.

Round 4 (FINALS) began Midnight on 5/31/2010 and will end at 11:59PM EST on 6/5/2010

Players responsible for hosting and scheduling their own matches.  Then, the winning team must provide a replay and a link to the pantheon stats here for tracking purposes, for every game played.  Please feel free to use this thread get your matches scheduled.

There will be a need to disqualify teams that aren't making the required effort to get their games in without penalizing another team that's doing whatever they can to get a match scheduled.  It's probably best if teams that are trying to organize matches go on record in the forums.  For instance, if I was playing against say AtMa and Ba, I'd post something like the following in this thread:

Atma + Ba:  trouser and pacov are generally available M-F from 5pm EST - 1AM EST.  Please let us know if some time in that slot would work for you or recommend a time slot that works.  I'll PM you in a few days if I haven't heard from you or we can discuss this on lagwars vent.

Something like that.  If it comes down to disqualifying teams because they didn't get their match in, the more info and tracking you have indicating that you did your best to get the match scheduled the better.

Here is the FINAL bracket  - UPDATED 6/5/2010

Tournament Rules:

  • You may only select characters as indicated in the grid below:

  • Each match in the tournament will be the best 2 out of 3 games
  • All matches will be played on cataract with default settings (the only exceptions being AI HP on Very High and AI Gold/XP on low)
  • After teams are formed, they will be randomly placed into a bracket to determine who will fight who.  Everything will be random initially in round 1.  In the following rounds, the winners from one game will play the winners from another based on location in the bracket starting from the top on to the bottom.
  • Each team will play 1 round on light side, then 1 round on dark side.  If there is a 3rd round, the team that had the fastest win in game 1 or 2 gets to pick the side they want to be on (keep in mind the following rule).
  • The team that is on the dark side must pick their characters and ready up first.  Then the light gets to pick and the dark side does not have a chance to adjust their characters.
  • To track your wins, you must do the following - post the replay at gamereplays.org.  If you have issues with gamereplays, upload the file to rapid share and provide us with a link.  Also, provide a link to the match in the pantheon and let me know if its a win or loss.  The winning team should do this for each and every match.
  • UberFix 1.02 must be used (https://forums.demigodthegame.com/374315) UberFix is a mod that fixes many of the bugs in Demigod.  Check the modding forum for everything that is fixed by UberFix 1.02.

How will we handle crashes:

If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match.  If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark).  If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win.  If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, a third party will review the replay of the match and render a decision.  Be aware that the 3rd party must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone.

How we will handle invalid game states:

The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match.  In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes.  If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and we will review.  If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team should be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts. Please be reasonable, though.  We all know that Demigod has its bugs and its still pretty easy to encounter an invalid game state even if no one has intentionally triggered it.  If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof.  Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Prizes:

Outside of prestige in our small community, there is also a cash prize thanks to community contributions.  The total (and probably final) amount paid for this tournament is $200.  If you would like to contribute to the pot, please pm me and I'll get you the needed info to send me a payment.  If individuals do not come through on their pledges, I will not be personally covering the difference.  My goal is to collect the pledged amount before the tournament starts and I will be providing updates as I receive the pledged money.

Please thank our contributors and consider contributing to the prize yourself.

  • Ke5trel - ($20 pledged - $20 paid)
  • brandon_varn - ($100 pledged - $100 paid)
  • jongalt26 - ($20 pledged - $20 paid)

I'm guessing this is going to become an issue... but I'll get the discussion going.  And I do want this to be a discussion.

Achillies (never-fuckwit-arook) - the tourney started on 4/21/2010 at 5pm.  Haxthias replied in this thread on 4/24/2010 at 10PM.  So, were really talking about the guy following up with you 3 days later.  I know in game time that way seem like a lot, but frankly, its been 3 days. We even said that if haxthias didn't respond to you by Sunday at midnight, that you'd be free to get another teammate.

Onto what are your realistic concerns, and I hope none of this will come off hurtful to haxthias, I agree that if haxthias is a little rusty or new to the game that your chances of winning the tournament are extremely slim.  I also know that irek was willing to take haxthias' place if he didn't contact you.  I also also know that having irek as a teammate meant you'd have a much better chance of winning.

But - just to be clear, if we are abiding by the rules of the tournament - you went into the free agent pool because you couldn't find a teammate before the tourney started.  I randomly assigned teams, and you were paired with haxthias.  That all was fair.  That you found a good alternate to haxthias shouldn't mean that hax should be kicked out of the tourney, imo.

Does anyone else have thoughts on this?  This issue needs bottomed out asap.

well actually i contacted him on the 19th, but anyway it doesn't really matter to me..i asked irek if he wanted to be partners before the tournament but he said he wouldn't have the time for it, but now apparently he does. then having haxthias not reply to my pm for 5 days which makes our chances of even getting past the 1st round even slimmer..just pisses me off

April 25, 2010 4:24:11 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Regarding the Haxthias situation, here are my thoughts:

I looked up Haxthias stats and couldn't find any games within the last 30 days... and he's apparently very hard to get a hold of...

So whats the issue?  NeverFuckwitaRook and NeverFuckwitaOak are teamates.  Moving on.

April 25, 2010 4:33:49 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I would say that's just motivation to find a teammate for the next tournament (assuming this one is successful).

If haxx was unavailable to play and never responded, I would agree that receiving another teammate so you weren't automatically removed from the tourney would be fair.  However, he is apparently available, so it's certainly not fair for you to ditch him and automatically remove him from the tourney now just because you found a different teammate long, long after the registration deadline.

Just my 2 cents.

Edit:  If we do this again, I think we need to have smaller windows on each round (so people know when to be available) and break the rounds down into 1 team vs 1 team (i.e. this round "1" is really like 2 rounds).  Perhaps it won't be an issue later on in the tourney, but personally I'm having the hardest time tracking down my opponents, and it seems like other people are having the same issue : /

April 25, 2010 4:39:30 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

He should team with irek, and if hax is really devastated I can be his teammate, or I can go find him a teammate and you can shove him in the green slot.

April 25, 2010 5:12:52 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I think irek would put up a better team on the table, which is far from a bad thing.

From the "conservative stick-in-the-mud" perspective since haxthias did indeed respond, yeah, he should play and irek shouldn't.

But I think from a participant in this tourney and from a spectator, putting irek in for haxthias is making a more competitive team. It's also brining another "clan" to the table (of sorts).

Also, Ninki is the slut of Demigod. He is constantly trying to sleep with everyone to make them feel better and make their problems go away. Canadians...

and i bet this haxthias guy won't reply for another 5 days...

@pacov: I think you should do this with all replay. People wont have to search in all threat for the replay. Just dont say the winner so the suspence will be there

Thanks for posting it like this, Naur.  Saves me some time.  Will add to the OP and congrats on your win.

Oh - and I don't object at all to people getting their matches in early.  I'm just trying to set some deadlines for each round so we can disqualify teams as needed that aren't responsive.

@pacov: I think you should do this with all replay.

Completely agree.  You won't have to wade through this thread to find the results.  If I miss anyone's results, please let me know as I'm sure this thread will have alot of activity.

edit - updated the op and the brackets

April 25, 2010 2:24:21 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

To elaborate more on the scheduling side of things, there is no penalty for getting your matches in early.  I think how I'll handle this is that there will be a week long window for each of the next 2 rounds.  So, we granted a little extra time on round 1a.  That ends at 11:59PM EST on 4/30/2010.  That means that round 1b officially starts at 12AM EST on 5/1/2010 and ends at 11:59PM EST on 5/7/2010, and so on.

From the "conservative stick-in-the-mud" perspective since haxthias did indeed respond, yeah, he should play and irek shouldn't.

Sounds like me.  Though I prefer the "we made rules and we stick to them" perspective over "conservative stick-in-the-mud."  I think its really unfair to knock haxthias out as he hasn't done anything wrong, but as I said before, its a community tournament, so its a community decision.  So, that's all there is to it then.  irek and achillies are teammates.  haxthias is without a teammate.  We should still alot for haxthias to play in the tournament if he wants to and ninki did offer to play with him.  I agree that irek and achillies will make a better team and provide more exciting matches, but disagree with breaking the rules.  My 2 cents, but I'm apparently alone on this one as well.

I wonder if irek + achillies should fight ninki + haxthias prior to the round 1 match as scheduled.

International Complications lol.

Maccilia's and my first match is against Shred_demon and AbornExile.  There's a significant time difference between the 4 of us.  It's 5 hours from me and im in EST and Mac is in CST so 6 hours for him. We're all kinda screwed by this logistical issue.  Prime time for the U.S. is 8pm or so to midnight, which is 1am to 5am in EU.

I snagged skype and skype mobile to communicate with Shred and we've been trying to make it work.  Unfortunately we really can't get the matches done until next weekend.  Will that be a problem for anyone if we wait?

Thanks

Jon - I don't have any objections and am cool with making an exception so you guys can sort out scheduling.  If the match hasn't taken place by midnight next Sunday (5/2), then 1 or both teams may be disqualified. I can certainly see that you are going to lengths to get the match scheduled, so I don't think giving you an extra couple days to get your match in should be problem.  Let me know if anyone has an issue with this.

Attmax44 and I can't seem to find the time with Busdude/McGreg.

We have been waiting from 6PM-4AM (sat), 3PM- (currently til 2AM).

Message me in-game and let me know if you can be on tonight.  It's only 10:30PM in Germany so it shouldn't be a problem.

Game 1 qot / Rook vs qot / Beast:  http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=121723

Game 2 qot / Beast vs Occ / Tb:  http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&show=details&id=121727

Game 1 was interesting.  Both got cd flag towers / and portal rather early, but Rook's towers kept their portal for us and we were able to get ours back relatively easy.  Kept their portal for the rest of the game and got cats to finish.

nothing terribly exciting in game 2.  Early concede even though they definitely could have been much more powerful late game.
