The Regulus Test

You make/join a game.  One that's low on people.  Pick regulus.  After others join, sit there for second.

A) Some jackass on your team will pick regulus also, then instantly hit "ready".  He will then ignore "no doubles" or questions/comments/concerns/hate directed at him for the next 2 mins.  I envision some guy sitting behind his computer, eyes squeezed shut, praying "letmeberegulus, letmeberegulus, letmeberegulus".

or they don't pick regulus.  You're blocking him, and he is writing your name on his "list" of people to kill.  Now that the game filled up, you choose UB or something useful.  Then we go to:

He instantly picks regulus, once you cleared the "block", and then hits ready instantly.  He is now on the moral highground of picking regulus.  Any attempts to change his mind will result in the praying thing again, or him typing "why not?" and stalling his ass off, while SECRETLY praying "letmeberegulus".

If your teammate fails either option of the test, I would suggest getting out of the game (or kicking if the host).  Let's face it.  99% of regulii players are passive aggressive weiners that want to avoid engaging the enemy at all costs.  It's stressful.  They have to buy HP items, micro, use potions, know what the items do, etc.  It's easier to let the "big boys" deal with it, expecting them to deal with 2v3.

Reminds me of Company of Heroes.  In 2v2 or higher, you'd get that teammate that would not engage the enemy, saving up for artillery.  They would expect you to fend off a 2v1, then he would ride in a save the day with artillery.  What you call a "turtle".

This is funny because... it's probably true.

Far too many cowardly Reg players that don't help the team out because they refuse to engage in fights where the whole team is needed. They think they can contribute sufficiently by sniping from across the map so they can avoid buying any hp items and go the whole game with just 2.5k hp. That way they can save item slots for items like helms and those +25 damage gauntlets and IF I LAND ONE MORE REG TEAMMATE WHO GRABS HUNGARLINGS CROWN INSTEAD OF GIANTS I'LL CRY.

Ahem. Sorry. I didn't mean to make my own rant in your post. But I did. Basically I suspect you're right Cin. And I lol'd at your post.

When you have a regulus on your team, every single 1v1 or 2v2 fight suddenly becomes 2v1 / 3v2 in your favour, because he can add dps from anywhere on the map...

Once you hit level 10, who cares if you have low hp because the enemy won't be able to get ANYWHERE near you with mines + mark of the betrayer slows...

HP stacking does not work on Reg, because he will STILL be squishier that other heroes because of his low base stats and 0 survival abilities.

P.s. mines in a team fight do almost as much damage as a rook's slam, and they are more spammable + massive slow

Thats nothing.

I was in a game with a regulus ally. We were rank 8, and they were rank 7. We were barely winning, although we didnt have catas, just angels. My Regulus ally had: Vlemish, Plenor, Narmoths ring, Hauberk of life, and Unbreable boots. We needed the catas bad, to push them, and eventually win. I had 4k gold, and he had 10k. I wanted to buy bishops, since it was late game and monks usually die often from creeps.

So I asked my reg to buy catas (he had 10k after all). And guess what, he says: "later", and he goes to the artifact shop and buys Mage Slayer!

So basically, just his Narmoths ring and Mage slayer were: 8k+4k=12000 gold! I was angry cause I had to sell all my locks and my sigil to get catas, and I just had my basic items, nothing worth more than 1750 gold (reg had 2 items worth of 12k). So I was left with just 2 teleport scrolls ffs!

Edit: nomilarac you mean that game where your reg didnt buy giants in the end, and we had giants while you still had catas? I remember that game, if you had giants soon enough, you would push us hard.

So true soooo true. I always get bashed for being a stat whore when I tell my teammate with a 150 games and 20% to maybe  try not playing reg.

Those rare occasions they do listen they instantly switch to TB and hit rdy

Sure it's not just inexperience? From a single player perspective, Regulus rapes the AI's face off, and is a lot easier to play than most DGs. Might just not know how to do anything else.

Also, holding Reg would probably only reinforce the idea that he's viable.

(that said, there's probably no excuse for someone who repeatedly does this game after game)

Regulus is very hard to play. He can't fight 1v1, he will always lose. His mines take time to set up to deal damage, and they have to be strategically placed. He needs to snipe from far away to maximize damage to help teammates win 1v1 or 2v2 fights. He needs to use Mark of the Betrayer right before a target is about to use an ability. He needs to do all of this without taking any damage or he will die.

Quoting synnworld,
Hey cinder lets play a game together; I got reg.

lol!  Then I get DA!

They always think snipe is going to help.  They're usually in the center, sniping until oom.  It MAY help on the 1v1 side, but the HP side is usually "WTFBBQPWNMYFACE" 2v1.  A snipe doesn't even scratch the gankage happening there.

Regulus, in like 2 people's hands, is good.  Regulus in the other 9,998 player's hands, is a death sentence.  Unless the other team is so bad you can 2.3 V 3 them and win.  (I equate reg to 33% of a good DG)
