Working on the connection code

What kind of router do you have?

By on March 26, 2009 3:51:01 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Please reply here with what kind of router you have, including brand and model number, what kind of modem you have (brand and model), the name of the company that provides your internet connection and what kind of connection it is (DSL, Cable, T1, Satellite).  This will help us to determine if there are models that are commonly having problems so that we can try to make it work for your setup.

Please also state if it works

A) Never

B ) Sometimes

C) Most of the Time

D) Almost always

I'm not going to list E) Always because that's statistically improbable.

If you're having connection problems, one way to improve your chances of success is to open and forward ports in your router. (Note, this won't work on public networks like at a university where you don't have access to the router)  First, go to Demigod\bin and run ImpulseReactorOptions.exe.  Enable the checkbox.  You can either leave the default ports or change them to a different range.  If you are on a LAN, you will need to use different ports for each computer playing Demigod.

Log files you can send in are stored in the My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod folder.  You should send in debug.err (it will be renamed to ImulseReactor.log for release) and files with the extension .csv, but you should zip the files to prevent them from being stripped by the mail server.

One thing was wasn't too clear in your post - do you want to know this information if we are having problems, or would you also like this kind of information if we are not having any problems?

That's a good point.  Please state whether it works

A) Never

B ) Sometimes

C) Most of the time

D) Almost always

That way we can determine if there are really good routers out there.

I have a 2Wire router and I have SBC Yahoo high-speed (or at least they say its high speed) DSL internet . I'm in Europe on vacation right now, so I can't tell you how well it works at the moment with the new patches, but in 3A it seemed to do alright, I'd say answer C, or maybe B.

We should switch the order around.  That way we "grade" the reliabilty of connecting.  "A" = almost always connect while "D" = Never.  That way you can focus on getting all "A's".

Hi, Israel here.

Router : ASUS AM604g ( modem+router )  DSL

ISP : Smile 015   2.5 MB Download / 192K upload

Success Rate : Never, except that day when there were 2 updates. I managed to play 2 games. Was slow to connect ( 2-3 minutes for a player to connect ) and play halted for a sec or two occasionally ( was 1v1 and 2v2 + AI's ), but no fails. It was before I installed the 2nd update of the day, I think also before I installed the 1st but not sure. Never could play with humans before or after, and there was a period that I couldn't even bring up host lobby just to play AI's. Pantheon always worked, but only with AI's. Tried various settings with Reactor and router ports, including full DMZ, no success. All other net functions including GPGnet and Emule work fine.

Got Debug.err and one csv file. What email address to send to ?

Hope that RAKNET guy is worth his salt : )

3 Setups 100% working as far as I know from my end.

Telewell 510, can't remember which hardware revision but newest firmware from a higher revision on a old hardware revision currently which actually seems to work. The router is a piece of shite however.

D-Link 604, forgot exactly which version, no problems at all, stock firmware.

DGL-4300, newest firmware using the above router as a modem. The powersupply died earlier and I managed to fix it so my baby is back up and running.

And my ISP... I have no idea what their name is now =P, used to be KOPU for Finnish, GATEL for Swedish but now they list Anvia on their stores oh blargh. It's a Finnish ISP anyways.

Motorola SB5101 SURFboard (Cable router)

D-Link DI-604 (100BaseT hub)

Intel(R) 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection - driver version 9.8.20.0

C: Most Of The Time

[almost never with more than a single other human player... at least not in Pantheon play]

My provider is Access Communications (www.accesscomm.ca), who provide 500-750k upload/download speeds. Pretty darn good service. I connect from my netcard to the hub, which connects to the cable modem. There is nothing special to the hub - just an inert branching mechanism.

I`ll send the aforementioned Demigod files in a zip *if* I get another error message... unless you`d want them now anyway.
