As Beta3 gets under way, I'd really like to see enhancements to how Generals can manage minions. I'm not saying this is the most effecient way or the best way of playing, but thus far I typically just summon my minions and have them tag along. I don't really interact with them in any way, but rather just keep them around as almost like a "buff" (whether it be damage or healing). Part of the reason is that General control of the minions is extremely limited.
What I would like to see is the same level of control over a General's minions as you would see in a typical RTS game. For instance, I want to be able to tell my Bishops to heal me or an ally. I want the ability to toggle autocast of various minion abilities.
Right now a primary lack of a "RTS" feel to this game for me is the lack of minion control and information. Minions should have abilities that can be triggered or set to autocast. That leads me to another point, though, and that is lack of information. I know Priests can heal, but how do they do it? How much do they heal? How much different is a Bishop from a Monk? Are their heals throttled by mana or is it cooldown based? Do minotaurs or siege units have any special abilities? If so, why not?
I know General gameplay is close to what they want, but I don't think what I'm proposing would be a massive departure from that. I think a big part of a typical RTS game is the management of one's army (or in this case, minions) but as of right now there is very, very little interaction that takes place with the minion units. Having controllable abilities on minions would, in my opinion, go a long way towards making General gameplay feel more RTS in style and differentiate them further from Assassins. Right now, I feel as though Generals are simply Assassins with an entourage of groupies.
