Because of difficulties folks are having recently due to changes in the code at Youtube, I thought it might be a good idea to run through a “How to” thread. My special thanks to Hankers for the solution and for being my patient teacher.

Embedding Video:

Choose “Use old embedded code”. Right click and Copy it.

In the Quick Reply choose the little “HTML” button, right click and Paste the “old code”.

Edit it as follows, deleting everything before and after this text:

and then click the Update button. The final text should look like the text above.

The video should now be embedded.

Newest Method of Embedding Youtube Video: New Button:

1. Go to the youtube url.

2. Click on the sharing you get:  http://youtu.be/Gc4HGQHgeFE  <- Example

3. You enter that in the empty space in the window which opens when you click on the "You Tube" button in the toolbar at the top of the response box.

4. You get:

Embedding a picture:

This is covered in the WinWiki, but I’m giving it a review here to anticipate questions.

You need to have either an “Imageshack”, “Photobucket” or "SkyDrive" type account.

When you’ve done that, upload the picture  or screenshot (you’ll have to navigate to where you saved it after clicking the “Upload” button) to that site.

At those sites (the one below is Photobucket) you’ll see:

Choose the Direct link and left click it. That will save it to your clipboard.

Now, returning to WC you navigate to the Quick Reply box: Pay attention to where the cursor is as you don’t want the picture to disrupt your text, and click the box with the tree.

You’ll see:

Right click on the “Image URL” box and “Paste” and then on the “Insert” button. You’ll be able to resize the image after it appears in the Quick Reply box by choosing the vertical, horizontal or corner boxes: Left click and drag that button to the desired size. If you err, click outside the picture and then back inside it and the adjustment grid should reappear.

Then, just click the “Submit Reply” button and presto! You’ve posted a comment and/or picture.

I have not had to edit video (the embedded stuff) yet as I copy and paste almost all of it from YouTube - I guess they are Joeuser (Stardock) friendly.

And, if it is just an online picture, like from Google images, where I got the one below, you can simply right click the pic, copy, come here to the forums, right click, paste, voila!

This also works if you want to copy a pic from another forum post and paste it here.

Yes. Bara has changed things around a bit. The youtube video button is a perfect example (thanks Bara!) now all you need is the youtube vid url (not from the browser but from the vid - clock the Youtube button on the vid and copu the url), then just paste it in the window in the button.
