In 2015 we saw lots of great games make their way to the PC. I was looking back at what I played and which I found the most enjoyable.

Galactic Civilizations III - Had a lot of fun with GCIII, and it's one of my favorite Stardock games.

Anno 2205 - As a fan of the Anno series I was disappointed in this. It looks good but didn't seem to hold my interest for very long.

Star Wars Battlefront - As a big Star Wars fan I was excited for this, but the game got repetitive real fast.

Rainbow Six Siege - I didn't plan on getting this, but after playing the beta I picked it up. It turned out to be one of my favorites of the year.

Grand Theft Auto V - Another game I had lots of fun with after not really caring much for the previous game.

Cities: Skylines - This is a great city-builder and a game I definitely recommending picking up.

So those were some of the games I played and enjoyed last year. How about you?

I tend to find a single game and stick with it until it loses its luster.

Started out with Endless Space - Disharmony.

Then came Galactic Civilizations III

After that and currently - Elite : Dangerous and the Horizons expansion.  It'll probably be my go to game for some time now

I'd mostly been all over the 4x board in 2015... FE:LH, SK, GC3, Endless Legends, Civ5, Civ:BE, AoW3.

Until the end of the year, in which I started somewhat of a reverse trajectory into builder games.

Started with Timber and Stone - pretty good

Went to Banished - great, especially with mods - love Colonial Charter!

Then came the deep dark rabbit hole of Dwarf Fortress - wow!!! depth of this game is unbelievable, can't believe I had skipped past this for so long without at least looking into it. The amount of time I've already spent not just playing but researching the fine details of this game is staggering.

So, .....

  • Gal Civ III (many hours here)
  • Witcher 3 (Going to lose a lot of hours here, I can see why its Game of the Year.)
  • Star Wars the Old Republic (MMO, you can lose your life playing an MMO, I raid weekends and some Friday nights.)
  • Distant Worlds (All expansions included, I wish Icemania made mods for it.... ..
  • Civ 5 with all expansions (Civilization never gets old, nothing like watching nukes on a city..... )

Those are my top draws last year and likely to be this year.....although I am eagerly awaiting Xcom2 and figure I will abandon all other games while I satiate the tactical player in me with that game. It appears to be shaping up nicely.

  • Dawn of War: Dark Crusade - Old favorite that's really showing its age now and loosing its appeal for me. Looked for MP opponents and found some Went undefeated until I met an expert who knew what he was doing
  • Company of Heroes - Favorite game. Getting hard to find opponents these days but I'm not giving up
  • Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - The big surprise!   It's kind of puzzlery and damn good!   In the beginning of the campaigns you're weak and can lose but after lvl 6 you will never lose unless you screw up royally. I imagine it's good fun vs friends
  • FarCry 2 - Played it a little and it's good. Still in the beginning but I'm getting there....I like the system of buying weapons
  • Quake - Still great!
  • Quake Live - Just as Quake III but with additional stuff and free
  • Armies of Exigo - Just scratched the surface but it's shaping up as StarCrafts lost fantasybrother
  • Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - Just tried the first mission. Need to play this alot more!

I have no idea how I'm gonna play games from 2015 when I haven't even finished games from 2005....my backlog is like Mount Everest at this point....71 games in the wishlist and 150 games in the library....goodbye life

Much like some of the OP, I purchased and really enjoyed GalCiv III (though my PC struggles a bit with it) and Cities Skylines.

I also purchased Endless Legend. It's a pretty good game as well.

And like Larsenex, I still really enjoy Civ 5. Easily my most played game in 2015, 2014, 2013, etc...

I also bought an older game from Matrix: John Tiller's Campaign Series. Great game!

XCOM Long War Mod has taken over my gaming life. Has there ever been a better mod for a strategy game?

Did play a little CIV V, Rebuild III (fun zombie strategy) and lots of games for an hour or two before I left them alone in my game list again.

Hoping to play Legends of Callasia demo soon, its crazy how bad its doing on Kickstarter. An almost finished game, a mix between risk and dominions 4, can it be so hard to support? Luckily the game will come funded or not.

Watching some let's plays of that gave me a similar opinion. Is that a release demo, or still an alpha/beta demo?

Can't say, but it has all the 2 factions in it.

In 2015 continued playing...

Ghost Recon Phantoms and Wargame EE

Of the games released in 2015.......

I tried SW Battlefront - refunded the next day (due to seeing how little depth there was to the game content, felt like paying mostly for that nostalgic 'feeling')

Rainbow Six Siege (I rode this one all the way from alpha and I love it more each day!)

@Island Dog

For R6 we've got a couple of groups together on a few TeamSpeak servers (about 20+ people who consistently play) so there is almost never the need to play solo.  PM me your uplay ID if you want to get on with us sometime.

EDIT:

Wow....how could I have forgotten Rebel Galaxy!  Oooops........well anyway, since I already made a separate thread about it I won't go into any detail but suffice it to say.....definitely a GEM of 2015 for me!

I started last year with Battlefield 4, which i bought during previous Christmas period on sale...it was fun for a while, i was trying to get SR338 sniper rifle, so that gave me some motivation to play...once i got it, i had to unlock all its attachments...but eventually it got old. I realized in the end i prefer Call of Duty, mostly because i prefer gun play over vehicles...and if you want to do that, you are stuck with basically 2 maps, Metro and Locker... simply CoD, with all of its downsides, its more of a game for me. I still play original Black Ops here and there and enjoy it.

Later in January i bought Grey Goo - it had nice graphics, but gameplay was disappointing. I think i played about 4 missions from campaign and bunch of skirmishes...and got bored with the lack of exciting stuff. In ground based RTS games i like navies and aircraft, over here there was indeed no navy and the entire aircraft were 3 planes, which were vastly underwhelming both in function and visual effect... the less said about the game the better.

In February i got HW:Remastered, mostly for nostalgic reasons. Played it maybe 2 hours. I dont regret though, TBH i never owned original Homeworld games, so i had to buy this.

Later i got Grim Fandango Remastered - started to play, but then stopped, hopefully i get to it one day. I was still halfway through first episode of Broken Age from previous summer, so i guess i should first finish that one.

Then i screwed around a bit with car games - i saw new Ferrari 488 somewhere, which made me want to drive around a bit again...so at first i got NFS: Hot Pursuit 2010, later NFS: Rivals and finally in October or November The Crew...which is really awesome for its massive map. I revealed majority of it though, so my excitement dropped and did not play it in a while now, but i think i may get back to it from time to time just to drive around a bit aimlessly...

In June or so i got Act of Aggression - another RTS disappointment of the year. Once again bland factions, overly complicated resourcing (not in a good way) and one of the most terrible UIs in RTS games i ever witnessed.

Finally, i got Ashes of Singularity...played only about 3 games so far, awaiting Substrate faction now.

Aside of these new ones, i played bit of Sins:Rebellion as usual, but nowhere near as much as previous years, then bit of aforementioned Black Ops, bit of Sea of Stars, few games of SupCom 2, PES 2016 demo and bunch of NHL14 matches...

Things I anticipated that came out:

Path of Exile - Came out with Act 4. It was eventually great. Way overtuned on launch, though. Talisman league has been great. Probably the game I spent the most time on this year.

Gal Civ 3 - What I played of it was good. Unfortunately that's much less than I'd like since it runs like ass for me (probably the totally potato video card I have), so I've gotta wait for upgrades.

fault milestone two side:above - Not a game, but a visual novel. Very good. Notable because I said it'd be good so long as it didn't hit the reset button, but it literally hit the reset button and was still awesome. Mind you, the reset button gets hit in a pretty unexpected way. The cinematic camera thing definitely helps a lot with making you feel more engaged, though it was overused in a few places IMO. Production quality-wise it's good. It's not Mahoyo good (more on that later), but it's also like an eighth of the price so that's kind of an unreasonable comparison. The spoiler character is probably the best character in anything I've read/watched/played that was released in the last year. She's pretty awesome. The "<spoiler character> have you gone mad?!" one, not the crazy lady or the girl. Crazy lady'll get her chance in side:below presumably.

Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom - New Touhou. Brutally hard now because of the checkpoint system. The game that teaches you that many problems can be solved by bombing America. Probably gets OST of the year. Really like America's theme. That or she broke me into liking it. Either or.

Things I didn't anticipate that came out:

Guilty Gear Xrd (PC) - Outta left field, Xrd got ported to PC. And it actually kinda runs okay even with my potato. I mean, you can't run ANYTHING else in the background, and the AA is ass, and there's frame drops on some busier stages, but it actually hits 60 for the most part. Nice that it can preserve the aesthetic even on my potato. (it's a GT 440 for the record) Otherwise it's the exact same game I managed to spend like half a post talking about when I talked about games I played in 2014.

Mahou Tsukai no Yoru - Again, not a game, strict visual novel. A partial translation came out of left field. Most interestingly, it was from neither existing project but from a third person working independently. Which is good cuz I'd given up hope on the other ones. Mahoyo definitely sets the standard visually for action-y VNs. It almost feels like you're watching an anime. A really badly animated but really well drawn anime, but still. It's also basically Rin Tohsaka: The Visual Novel which is pretty much exactly in my strike zone.

Things I anticipated that didn't come out:

Rimworld apparently isn't even close to done. Still no word at all on the Seinarukana translation even though it should be done by all indications. Sasuga JAST. World End Economica Episode 3 apparently needed an entire new translator so that's delayed. Really should've seen that one coming after WEE2. Thank goodness I'm not waiting for this on Vita like some people are. That'll be a headache to get all the translations consistent, not to mention working given Sekai Project's record.

Things I anticipated that I didn't get around to:

Trails in the Sky Second Chapter - Came fairly late in the year and I've been a bit busy and PoE consumes most of the spare time. The like... 4 hours I've played of it THIS year have been good, though. And everyone says it's really good. In a surprise move Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki) ALSO came out this year. Apparently it's even better. And did well enough for its sequel to be translated too. But it's gotta wait for SC first.

Pillars of Eternity - The other PoE. I'll get around to it. Eventually. Probably. I mean, it's sitting there, bought and all. And I loved BG2. Maybe when I'm not playing the other PoE or TitS SC.

Quoting Heavenfall,

@joasoze the demo's been out for a while. My opinion: shallow garbage

It is a bit more of a filler than a 4x clearly

Thanks for the feedback

DC Universe Online, Age of Wonders 3, Eador - MotBW, Might & Magic X - Legacy, Endless Legend

some old stuff like Neverwinter Nights 1+2, Eternal Darkness,

and perhaps the greatest joy was in finding some arcade games I played as kid (now in Dosbox) esp. Joe & Mac, Tiger Road, 3Wonders (Midnight Wanderers, Chariot)

I've found myself playing almost entirely CCGs and FUMBBL (which is a java based blood bowl client).

MMDoC, which is the king, but is also dead sadly

Magic Duels, which is fine if you like MtG, but frankly, I find it kind of dull as they have too few game options and zero tournaments

Spellweaver which started great, but somewhere I hit a wall with it and rarely fire it up

Star Crusade which is similar to Hearth Stone mechanically, but I find I like it much better, still open Beta, so hop in and get a head start I guess

Anything else has been the odd play through of Long War, CiV when I have that urge, Thea the Awakening which is a nice little survival/3X (no expand)/roguelike kind of thing, and a few play throughs of Bionic Dues, which is for my money the best product Arcen has ever had.
