Looks like Beth has released an official Fallout 4 trailer.  World has gone to the dogs, one car has the brotherhood icon painted on - just before we see an 'inert' brotherhood in full battle armor ...  is s/he really inert, or just watching?

http://bethsoft.com/en-us/news  more news June 14 at 7PM EST from their E3 conference.  Use twitch.

Trailer at LA Times:  http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/herocomplex/la-et-hc-bethesda-confirms-fallout-4-in-development-20150603-story.html

Doesn't seem like this is another 'fake' trailer.

I'm excited... your thoughts, hopes, etc?

Quoting RavenX,

When you watch the vid, it's the guy in the mirror who comes out of the vault 200 years later, and his Mr Handy even recognizes him and calls him by name. I'm thinking in the vault you go into some kind of "stasis" or something, he says he's not giving away the spoilers, but it's still you 200 years later. That means either the character you don't choose and the baby either die, or they're somehow saved too and maybe get out before you. He even says you're the only survivor of vault 111. I am hoping you run into the character you don't choose (husband/wife) at some time later though, or maybe your own grandkid. You definitely come out of the vault 200 years later as the character you make though, he just doesn't say the specifics of how.

And you call yourself a Fallout fan....pay attention to the video, gees

I saw and heard all that.  Note my comment about 'misdirection.'        Remember the three prophecies the witches make to McBeth?  (paraphrase from memory) McBeth: 'No man of woman born can kill me.' McDuff's retort:  ' was from my mother's womb untimely ripped.'  Truth wrapped up in misdirection.  I'm guilty of over-thinking... me thinks

Heh, perhaps, perhaps not. I just minutes ago finished restarting FO3 and the parts that jump out are about the mother, life, and the passage from revelation. You could be on to something.

Great idea!  Start a new run of FO3.  I loved lonesome road...     Thanks

Quoting ElanaAhova,

One concern: Wish I knew what PC specs are necessary to play Fallout 4 with he same graphic settings we see in the previews.

This one is tricksy, since unless a demo shows clearly that it is running on a console it is probably running on a PC (and a very powerful one at that).  I don't think it is common any more to run demos on a dev kit (huge risk and first parties put in the contract that dev kits will never leave the dev's (secure) workplace).

There was a fair bit of deception in the presentation.

You could, however, built a PC that is roughly equivalent, or even more powerful than, one of the newer consoles.  A quad core processor and 8 gb RAM should beat the console slightly (and also requires a 64 bit OS).  The graphics card (probably the best component on a console) is where I'd have to guess and say at least a GeForce 450 or rough equivalent (but better would be better).

Hey RavenX, may I ask, what mods you run with FO3.  Are you trying any of the newer ones, released in last year or two?  I'm adding DC metro and the companion mod 'ties that bind.'  I have never shroomed Megaton - maybe I will this time?

I'd like to know as well.  Your enthusiasm must be contagious, since I'm reinstalling FO3.  I don't think I've played it modded yet, so there should still be much fun to be had this time around.

I watched the FO4 presentation a second time and am pretty excited for that too.  There was a bunch of mechanics stuff that I'm curious about now (like how skills and perks will work, and getting xp from crafting).

I haven't looked into any mods for FO3 actually. I have the GotY edition but I bought it on disk before it was tied to Steam so I don't have the workshop for it. I don't like mods that make things OP or unbalance gameplay and I don't really like taking a chance introducing bugs to games as long as Fallout. Sometimes I install nudity patches, you know, for extra realism when I strip my victims (because stacking dead bodies just isn't fun if they aren't naked). I've never bothered looking for mods for it from Nexus or anywhere. Honestly I play probably %90 of the games I own un-modded. I do have all the expansion content though.

Same here, GotY on DVD(NO STEAM YEA).  All expansions as well. Mods I use improve the user interface, add weather and lighting, increase the quality of the graphics (items, landscape, people), and add gun mods (add sights, or more ammo mag to some weapons).  Unoffical patches fix many of the bugs Beth left in.  I don't like overpowered avatar or wep/armor either. Mods I use also add content, more quests, more music, new locations.    I get then at fo3nexus.  I use Wyre Bash (Flash) for mod management.  (I was never able to get Mod Organizer to work - looks like an awesome management tool - but ti doesn't like me, lol.)

Fallout 4 director Todd Howard confirmed the news to Digital Spy at this year's E3 gaming expo.

Summary:

Fallout 4 will run at 1080p and 30 frames-per-second on everything.

Players will be able to build structures and defenses within the game world.

Mod support has been confirmed for PC, followed by Xbox One.  PS4? – up to Sony.

Paid (player made) mods very unlikely.

Oh, and for those interested in the physical pip boy, sold out.

30 fps on Every system? That seems a bit...odd. I wonder why that is. Skyrim runs faster than 30fps on PC. I wonder if that's a hard coded cap?

I'm guessing it was meant as a minimum.  It's not much of a claim really, since it is a compliance requirement for consoles and nigh impossible to guarantee for PCs (compatibility is a nightmare).

I had the same questions - I'm also a big fan of Skyrim - modded and making mods...

Just found this on Forbes.com , we're all good on PC . Those specs are only locked on consoles, not for us. Bethesda knows better than to alienate their most loyal fan base.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2015/06/22/no-of-course-fallout-4-wont-be-locked-at-1080p30fps-on-pc/

Check it out.

[Update: There we go! Bethesda has officially clarified that Fallout 4 is running at 1080p/30fps on Xbox One, PS4. "Resolution and FPS are not limited in any way on PC."]

The console players tend to play the game once or twice, then never go back to it. Bethesda knows us PC players do mods and modding and they know we're the ones, not the console players, that keep their games installed for years and keep the replay value for them up long after they're done making expansions. They won't do us dirty.

We're Safe!!

Phew...heh

I'm thinking the Mods that will be on the PC version won't be available on the XB1 version until their Win 10 integration on XB1 happens. PS4 people will never get them at all so they'll be missing out unless Sony can work some kind of magic to make it happen, but I don't think it'll happen for them.

Microsoft is really pushing cross-platform with Win 10 and are migrating aspects of it to everything that will tie together all your devices. PC's, desktop, laptop, and tablet, and with your phone. It *sounds* like a good thing to do, but, to me it also seems like a bit of bad call on the safety side of things. All someone has to do once that's done is hack just one of your devices and then they'll have access to All of your devices. The "Network of Everything" will have some cool advantages, but it can also lead to major disadvantages and cause serious problems and issues. I myself for one Do Not want all my things tied together by a network. Some of us rather cherish what anonymity we have left and once this happens and biometrics are incorporated into everything there will be no place left to hide.

Consoles have had patches and dlc for quite a while now, adding mods to that should be technically trivial.

But that really does seem to be the issue RavenX.  I suspect the data gathering would be more of a bonus on their giant rent farming (subscription of some kind required) content hub.

Also, I'm surprised you bought into press speculation and twitter response from Bethesda.  It sounds like Native Resolution hype got conflated with PC and mixed in with a bit of completely made up (regardless of how plausible it is).

I wasn't really buying into it as I was more worried they'd gimp the PC version on us. Of course it would be tweakable through settings or through the .ini file, but there has been a rash of developers dumbing down specs for console hardware. I was more worried about that than anything else.
