Have not seen the movie but will in the near future... but I'm a huge comic book nerd.
The Gog comic has always been a bit off imo. The original GoG was very strange (it was about as popular as the new warriors imo - I'm sure you've heard of them, right...?). The reboot of GoG in the comics (a few years back), was more interesting to me, but still not of the caliber of other marvel titles. They've woven the GoG into more and more marvel comics of late due to the movie's release imo, but it made them more interesting. For instance, 1-3 months ago, there was an x-men/gog crossover that was clearly for the movie. There's been like a 6 month or so build up doing crossovers to get us into the characters.
Anyway, in comicdom, I think they are marvel's b or c list (d list before reboot). I'm impressed that the movie is doing well. That says a heck of a lot marvel's casting. Think a lot of people like the lead from parks and rec. I think its really bold for marvel to make the movie period considering that non comic book nerds know ZERO of the characters involved. Great for everyone if its a solid movie and well received.
Honestly, I'm really surprised with the movies lately and their reception. That days of future past xmen stuff - one of the best claremont story lines imo. Super sci fi stuff with time travel as well. People dig it. Now this. Next, the avengers vs ultron in the future. Lots of crazy comic stuff.
