Problems with selecting players in skirmish

I play single player. When I try to select ai players, the first time is fine, the 2nd time takes a couple of mouse clicks before I can make a selection. The 3rd time it can take up to 10 tries before I can do anything. The 4rth time is not even worth bothering with.
