How To Play Torch Bearer

By on October 26, 2009 11:54:30 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Okay so I'm no great TB player, but I really like playing him.

The plan is for you all to post builds / tips / items / strategies / ... and I'll update my post to make a complete guide.

Here's the fire TB build I use:

Skills:

Level 1: Circle of Fire I
Level 2: Fireball I
Level 3: Fire Aura I
Level 4: Fireball II
Level 5: Circle of Fire II or Fire Nova I
Level 6: Fire Nova I or Circle of Fire II
Level 7: Fireball III
Level 8: Circle of Fire III
Level 9: Fire Aura II
Level 10: Fireball IIII
Level 11: Circle of Fire IV or Fire Nova II
Level 12: Fire Nova II or Circle of Fire IV
Level 13: Fire Aura III
Level 14: /
Level 15: Inspirational Flame + Fire Nova III

Circle of Fire is a great skill to kill the first creep wave, it's also good to keep the enemy away from the flag if you put it around the flag, most players won't run into your circle at level 1.

Fireball is your most important skill, that's why I always get it first (cept for lvl 1), it's great for doing damage to towers and enemy demigods, it also has quite a nice range to finnish of that running enemy

Fire Nova is another nice insant direct damage spell, great to finnish of an enemy or to get that last bit of damage in. It's also great when you have to cap a portal or run into a huge creep wave, it instantly kills all the soldiers / archers / priests.

You could get Fire Aura sooner instead of Circle of Fire or Fire Nova, depending on what your game requires.

If you're getting a lot of opportunities to kill enemies but miss them by a small amount of health every time, get Fire Nova.

If you need to take down enemy towers or other buildings, upgrade Circle of Fire first, it's a great skill to take down towers.

If you're too slow to survive / kill anything, get some more Fire Aura to boost your speed, this also boosts your team's run and attack speed.

Items:

I'm not really sure about these yet, but here's what I do most of the time, in this order:

- Boots of Speed
- Banded Armor
- Scale Mail
- Unbreakable Boots
- Vlemish Faceguard
- Plenor Battlecrown
- Hauberk of Life

This is very game dependant though.

If your enemy is slow you could throw away Boots of Speed and replace it with another health / mana item. I would never do this though, I like speed too much.

Scale Mail is only usefull if your opponents use a lot of auto attacks or minions.

Plenor Battlecrown is only needed if you constantly run out of mana, even with Vlemish Faceguard and Unbreakable Boots.

Hauberk of Life could replace Scale Mail or Banded Armor if needed.

Favor Item:

- Swift Anklet
I always use this one, I love the speed.

- Blood of the Fallen
A great item on any demigod, you can't go wrong with this one.

- Staff of Renewal
This combined with Vlemish Faceguard + Plenor Battlecrown could result in some serious pwnage.
You can get your skills off more often, but they'll also cost more mana.
I just tried this one, you really get off a lot more fireballs, but the lack of speed gets you killed too much.

Meh. Not bad but I dont really like a fire build much. Im an ice man myself

That said Circle of Fire is a great skill if not bugged

Of course playing as Fire TB does mean you have access to his greatest line... 'Here comes Global Warming'

I think people shouldn't play ice builds at all, especially when they are not on my team.  Firebuilds just cause my demi's armor to get a little warm and itchy and they sure are great for campfire smores.  Those ice builds cause my demi's cod piece to fall off, and if you think getting into a cold pool causes shrinkage.....

Not only that but those constant snowballs are a pain in the ass, literally as they melt down the back of my demi's armor.  And the deep freeze just causes my guy to get stuck for way too long.  Combined with grasp, boulder roll, charm etc. and my guy just ends up like a sitting frozen duck.

Anyways, i've seen an influx of Ice TB's and i don't like them, so please stop playing them.  (unless you're on my team)

Thanks for your consideration.

Try TB with Blade of the Serpent.  Fire Nova or Ring of fire can refill your manna, plus i think it's +40 weapon damage.  Of course, then Rain of Ice gets real tempting.

Best build for me so far is hybrid TB, with fire aura for allies.

Farming with RoI at the beginning, then later on damaging with fireball (lvl 1-4-7-10).

Works pretty well.

Past lvl 10 I had a bit of permafrost just to be sure that they can't escape mwahahah.

Fire TB is an aggressive form and u can do great damage. Ice TB can control/help ur team mate. Its always depend who u face and who are in ur team. If u have oak+ub in ur team....go ice baby. U will reduce the atk speed, u can interupt 2x, etc, BTW its up to each player

Ok no bad guide for an fire TB Yeodan.

But i prefer a hybride build, just because fire build is only dmg, you cant support your team and you dont have any interrupt.

Hybrid mainly on ice gives you the ability to support your team and you can skill the really great dmg skill fireball.

And if you play an pure fire or pure ice TB you won't switch your forms i think, so you just miss the really nice 20 sec buffs.

50% Mana regen increase and more dmg in Autoattack.

If you just need to do lot of dmg then try this fire TB guide.

How about someone posts an ice and hybrid guide.
I don't really see how a hybrid build is any good.

Fire DOES support your team, it gives them more run speed and more attack speed!
Making it easier for them to kill stuff or to get in / out of fights!

Your right but thats the only thing the fire aura. I think the ice aura is better anyway because of the slow and mana regen

Ok i will write an hybrid guide soon

fire aura > permafrost imo

fire aura gives more speed to your team +15% movement speed
permafrost only reduces the enemy speed by  7%

both aura's have + and - 15% attack speed
fire aura allows your team to kill the enemies faster
permafrost allows your team to stay alive longer

fire aura gives +30 weapon damage
permafrost gives 9 mana / second (wich is nearly nothing imo)

so I think fire aura is better than permafrost by far

ofcourse the stuns an ice build has are great, but I still prefer a fire build

the biggest disadvantage of a fire build is that it cannot auto-attack while moving while an ice build can

well a fire build can too by switching to ice, but that takes time and removes your fire aura and all your skills

Well maybe a big point why i use permafrost is that i am mainly in ice form with hybrid

I just wrote a guide for a Hybrid TB:

Quoting Yeodan,
How about someone posts an ice and hybrid guide.
I don't really see how a hybrid build is any good.

Fire DOES support your team, it gives them more run speed and more attack speed!
Making it easier for them to kill stuff or to get in / out of fights!

here for you mine (but i bet others figured it out before me ):

1) RoI 1

2) Permafrost 1

3) Fireball 1

4) RoI 2

5) Permafrost 2 / Frostnova 1

6) Frostnova 1 / Permafrost 2

7) Fireball 2

8) Fireball 3

9) Deep Freeze 1

10) Fireball 4 / Frost Nova 2

11 Deep Freeze 2 / Frost Nova 2 / Fireball 4

12 Deep Freeze 2/3 / Frost Nova 2 / Fireball 4

13 Deep Freeze 3/4 / Frost Nova 2 / Fireball 4

14 Deep Freeze 4 / Frost Nova 2 / Fireball 4

15 Fire and Ice

now get blizzard up and grap the lvl 15 skill and maybe last permafrost.

the basic playstyle is to farm with roi creeps but only if you can afford the mana. fighting demigods you switch to fire and open with a fireball, then switch to frost and start autoattacking or if needed a roi. later on you will du combos after you switched back to ice, meaning RoI, nova and deep freeze.

so the basic idea is alot of burst and consitant dmg (last due to the aa buff switching from fire to ice stance) and control later on.

depending on mony you can grab equip to help you stay in melee range for some more time

edit: fireaura seems indeed better as permafrost, but as a hybrid you mostly stay in ice aura. you only switch to fire for fireball and/or getting the switching buff. and don't forgett: the autoattack in fire stance is bugged!
