New Player

By on September 18, 2009 11:57:04 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I've played less than 30 games, i've also played the demo some beforehand and am starting to get the hang of how everything works. I can't get into about 60% of the games i try to join(without pro or anything in the title, i don't try those) because they look up my stats and kick me. So now i barely ever play this game because i don't feel like sitting in lobby for an hour.

Can we get an option to just reset our win/loss record or something maybe once every couple of months if you want, it's very punishing for newer players who can't get their ratio up because of other new guys or the stupid disconnect AI feedfest.

Just my 2c, i like this game a lot but i want to play more and get better without all this crap.

I think there should be a Practice Mode to replace the Skirmish Mode. The initial learning curve is a bit steep and this would help new players a ton with the main issues that i'm sure everyone here is already familiar with

There definately needs to be a ratings/stats free mode where you can play and practice or experiment without penalty. Who even plays skirmish anyway.

I suggest playing Pantheon.  Easy way to get games and usually get wins to increase your win ratio.

stick with it.  We need players and the game just gets better and better the more you learn and the more people you get to know to play with.

Good luck to you.

I suggest playing Pantheon.

Very good suggestion.  There is an overlay that will be added to show stats in game (in 2 weeks was the last I heard).  This means good things and bad things for you intially.  On the good side, you'll know right away if you are playing against people with a similar amount of games and experience.  On the down side, you'll quite possibly get kicked or asked to leave from more games that have lousy titles.  I'd suggest that if you host your own custom games and call it Noobs or beginners only.  There will PROBABLY be a stat reset after version 1.2 goes live (https://forums.demigodthegame.com/363089/page/3), but I'm guessing that won't be out for another month (but who knows).

Regarding the information that will be available in the overlay, check here:  https://forums.demigodthegame.com/363903/page/1/#replies

I'm glad you picked up the game and hope the rest of your experience with it is good!

Listen to pacov.   Version 1.19 is supposed to come out on Tuesday, Frogboy said that they would be doing a rehash of the stats, but I don't think we're up for a stat reset quite yet.  My suggestion is try to make friends with everyone as you play.  I know my group doesn't mind a bad player with or against them, so long as they're fun to play with.

You could host games if you want to avoid being kicked. Sometimes it takes a while, but they always trickle in. Feel free to send me a friend request, and if I'm on I'll join your game. FYI, my friend chat doesn't work.

Pantheon is a good start, as many have said.  I played Pantheon for about 30 games, then I started custom matches.  Now I usually host games.  I will admit I do look at stats, but I'm not looking at the win-loss ratio. What I do look at is total disconnects vs. total games played.  I started out not checking at all, but I got so frustrated with players who disconnect almost every game.  Anyway, add me to friends or look for my games.  You won't get kicked.

I just got this today. I really am enjoying it so far, but am new, of course. I'm trying to read up on tactics and such but people seem to expect a little much out of new players. I guess I'll try the Pantheon and keep plugging away. It would be nice to meet some cool folks and play while talking things out on Vent. I could prob learn a lot more that way.

Well i had the same problem like Seaka. Well even if you are a good player but haven't played as much games as other ones you get kicked..

Help the Newbies in the Game, they can get Pro. It's like in every other game, they get better if they have more experience, but if you dont let them play they won't get better and will leave us alone someday.

Ah well you can add me as a friend, too.

Lets play to get experience

Honestly just host your own game. There are tons of players like you that join lobbies they shouldn't. Host your game and title it NEW PLAYERS ONLY just like I title mine NO NEW PLAYERS. You usually get what you ask for.
