Build Challenge: Level 7 Queen

By on June 18, 2009 2:19:44 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

What's the Best Build?

DG: Queen of Thorns

Level: 7

Gold: 7200

Favor: None selected yet

Map: Cataract

Ally: Soul power specced Oak (Spirit ward 1,2, soul power 1, shield 1, Penitence 1,2,3)

Enemies: Unclean Beast, Sedna (Both at level 7, Beast has spit and ooze for sure, sedna has healing and silence)

For the sake of argument, let's us not worry about spending gold on citadel upgrades.

So, how would you play this, if you were in this situation, and could allocate everything?

I don't play a lot of queen but I like theorycrafting so here goes:

Items:

Favor: Blood of the Fallen

Scaled Helm

Banded Armor

Vlemish Faceguard

Unbreakable boots

Nimoth Chest or Plenor Battlecrown

Wand of Speed

(total gold: 7100)

Abilities:

Bramble Shield 3

Ground Spikes 2

Shambler 1

Mulch 1

I think this would give a good balance between health and mana.  Shield is pretty powerful in 2vs2's, so spam that as needed.  Use Ground Spikes and Penitence to coordinate damage spikes with Oak.  Mulch->Shield->Wand of Speed if you get in trouble.

FYI, tub of grease is an obvious include with any build of Queen of Thorn. I couldn't imagine playing with her, without a tub of grease.

I don't know if this, or the naked greased-up deaf guy running through the woods that I was referencing is dirtier.

This one is pretty good but I'd take the teleport favor item as it will get you out of a jam better than anklets. I would also pass up wand of speed for the 1500 boots that have hp and mana. Other than that this is very solid push spec.

this made me lol

I will beat you with that build

It was vs a beast and a sedna and after negative armour reduction my minions would eat both alive

Remember this is a team game and your build is piss poor like all HoL builds well yours may last 1 week

June 18, 2009 5:48:16 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

They have poor AOE so minionspam could go a long way. You need to have a strong shield to compete with Sedna's attrition power though.

Rank 3 shield, rank 3 Shambler, rank 1 Entourage,

Cape of Plentiful Mana - This is pretty great for any fight of attrition, since it can increase your allies mana regen as well as your own.

Scaled Helm - 550

Hauberk of Life - 2300

Vlemish Faceguard - 4050

Gladiator Gloves - 4800

Cleric - 6300

Siege Archer - 6850

Minotaur Berserker - 7200

lol....minions are far too easy to kill, more lulz thanks radish

Skills:

rank 3 Bramble Shield

rank 3 Ground Spikes

rank 1 Spike Wave

Items:

Cloak of Night (Favor)

Vlemish Faceguard

Unbreakable Boots

Banded Armor

whichever mix of Idols you like with the remaining 3400 gold (i'd get priests and archers preferentially)

the idea is to support Oak's high sustained damage output with Ground Spikes while keeping you both alive with Shield. the armor debuff should make your combined minion armies kill very quickly.

i nearly always take Cloak of Night with Queen both for the highly useful mana regen (made even better by closed mode regen bonus of +50%) and because it has great synergy with Ground Spikes. You can warp in to exactly the right spot to fire off your Spikes and cause maximum devastation. also helps you get out of bad situations too obviously.

HorseRadish got it right.

Noobs always underestimate minions.

Sedna and UB have no ranged aoe so when they attack your minions because they are "too easy to kill", you just micro the low hp minions around while you pound on their DG.  If they are about to kill a shambler, you mulch it.  Every hit they make on a minion is one less against you.  The only real threat those enemies could bring to a heavy minion build is if UB focused in ooze, but thats why you have all ranged minions at this point, you can spread them out.

June 19, 2009 12:19:57 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Minions are WAY stronger them people give them credit for.

I tried to help people out but then a noob like foreshadowed comes in and has no clue.  I only have played this game for 11+ months I am sure his 2 months of knowledge he has played at least 1000 minutes of games with every DG like I have.

ding ding ding, we have a winner!

I already knew HorseRadish took the game to seriously, ive seen his posts "ive been playing the game longer, sit the fuck down and be quiet"

to uh..critic his build, its a fun build, but thats about it, I tried it out a few times, great for pushing/1v1 etc

But there are far better things you can do with queen..

PS HorseRadish, that favor item is a complete joke...

Your over glorified minion build is exactly the same as mine without the crummy shamblers, mulch divine lolwut favor crap

7100 gold is such a weird nunber, how about around 7100 since you should be able to wait 10 seconds at the shop + usually I am upgrading items too so it is not so clear how much money you have available at any given time?

Regardless

3x Bramble Shield
3x Ground Spikes
1x Spike Wave

Items:
Swift Anklet
Boots of Speed
Scaled Helm
Banded Armor
Teleport Scroll
Universal Gadget
Mana Potion
Sell Banded Armor get Hauberk
Sell Scaled Helm Get Plenor Battle Crown
WyrmSkin Handguards

You might scoff at universal gadget, but for this build it is very easy to get a surprise kill. Just keep shielding until the enemy begins to withdraw, then chase and keep hitting since you are faster. If you can kill them before they get to their towers, great. If they reach the towers, try and get him to >650 life and then pop him.

Plenor is also more useful then faceguard if you plan on using ground spikes, spike wave and then shielding. You can burn alot of mana in one attack, so the extra 500 mana is better if you want to be able to shield because you took alot of damage in the initial exchange and your shield was collapsed. It also gets you closer to wyrmskin, since it is cheaper. When you have wyrmskin and do a ground spike + spike wave, there is usually no escape if they try and withdraw.

June 24, 2009 11:49:59 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I've been using the blood soaked wand with my Shield + Ground Spikes spec QoT recently. It's quite nice being able to pop a 1k heal to all in the vicinity every 45 seconds. Adds to my "Support" usefulness. Always get 3 helmets too until i can afford heart of life.

June 26, 2009 1:16:46 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Bramble, then spike, then bramble, then spike, etc. Ground spikes lvl 5. Only get mana items (vlemish first) keep oak alive, slow down enemies for the chase at lvl 5. You shoul out lvl them.

Oh, and swift booties as favor so you can run away.
