Rage quitting evolves!

By on June 14, 2009 8:26:56 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Now that rage quitting has been discussed until the cows come home I am finding that in custom games, particularly where there's a smaller community(such as with Australian players), it's not so easy to remain anonymous and people who ragequit get remembered and punted out of games. Players are not just simply being assholes now and bailing, they're coming up with convenient reasons.

Ugh sorry guys, this Sedna suddenly says last night as their team is getting spanked, my screen is like totaly grey, I cant see anything...alt-f4

Anyone getting lagged? Man I am so lagged, says another guy suddenly, also conveniently after his side is getting smashed. alt-f4

Erk my cat is chewing on my network cable...alt-f4

Seriously, I have heard a few excuses with people bailing just after, all when the team is incidentally getting owned. I have been taking note of people who quit, via either rage or excuse as imo it's just absolutely piss poor form. Wherever possible I try to make sure if someone has bailed on a loss that they dont play with our regular groups again. Of course there are some people who legitimately DO have problems, we all know the game isnt perfect in that regards, but it's pretty damned obvious when someone is full of sh1t also.

Well it's your fault really. Why don't you just let the man quit if they are getting spanked? Unless you are hunting for favor points, there is no point in insisting that the other team stays in the game after defeat is certain.

IIRC there was a bug that caused the screen to remain grey after dying.

So, they had to take care of their cat... Some people have obligations in the real world.

Losing is annoying, and lag makes it worse. If a person is winning then they will usually stick around to get the win. People tend to forget that sportsmanship isn't just about being a good loser. It's a game, and your opponents are people.

Yes, I noticed this, but never put 2+2 together: Suddenly people realize just "quitting" outright has consiquenses, so I too am noticing pet/wife/child emergencies exactly at the time their team might be losing (underline "might").  Real life things do happen, but still, I think we will just have to write down and remember those who don't seem to have any "emergencies" when they are winning. . .

"Honey, can't you call poison control yourself?  I'm busy winning. . ."

June 14, 2009 9:36:22 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

My point is regardless, it's just another form of rage-quitting and unless you condone rage-quitting, it's retarded. I made the cat excuse up as an example, believer. It's a direct result of rage-quitting being so commonplace that people are becoming more creative in creating exit points - ie omg sudden magical lag ALT-F4

heh or like that Lashiec guy from last night. He starts screaming at me and Digidiy to 'NOT RUN BACK TO BASE WE'LL LOSE' and 'OAK GET SHIELD' when I've already been shielding our TB when he got spat on. Then 'I DIED CUZ YOU DON'T HAVE SHIELD' ... I said 'oom'. It is nice to have an Oak w/shield to back you up, but you don't rely on it. I might need it myself.

Meanwhile digi and I are struggling to keep flags capped cuz Lashiec is not helping and is just farming creeps for gold. Then whineing when we run from a 3v2 encounter.

It went on like this for about 3 mins and i told him to 'shut the fuck up, I don't need your second rate advice' so he rage quit.

He's getting his ass booted from any game I ever host again.

This is one of the great things about our small aussie community deepjay, we can keep these ass wipes in check.

As for lame excuses well... it will only happen so many times before you get suspect fo the player anyhow.

Boy do I hear that Hate:  Played 1 3v3 game last week, me as Sedna, BOTH my teammates kept writting "Heal", and I was healing them, as fast as my cooldown would allow.  They'd even wrote it seconds after I just healed them.  I think they thought we were playing WoW, and I was a preist.  A couple times, I had to choose to save them, or myself with a heal, and I healed/saved them and they complained that I died.

THE TEAMMATES THEY DO NOTHING! Yeah I don't think people get that support DGs are not there to serve them. A good sedna, oak or qot etc is there to keep their side on the field longer, not to keep them alive. Anyone who gets so far in they are gonna be screwed without a heal etc is just a random with no idea how supports work.

Yeah I played with Lasheic09 the other day too. As soon as we started rolling his team, he magically had a connection error. So amusingly he always does now if he joins our lobby's

I think it's pretty natural to succumb to the need to face their imminent real world problems if they're losing, unless it's an extreme emergency, which would definitely be rare.

If I have to take my already late meal, for example, I would have a lot less incentive to continue to play when I'm losing badly with little to no hope of making a come back, than retiring from the game to eat.

June 15, 2009 12:01:24 PM from Stardock Forums Stardock Forums

What do you want people ... if the ragequitter stay in the game he will only act like a asshole. Do you really want that?

June 15, 2009 12:03:27 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Course it really sucks when you have a legitmiate reason... Played one game where my video card overheated (BAD!) and it caused all the textures in the vram to get garbled... all the polygons were correct, but the skins on everything went bonkers.  Tried to play it out for a bit anyway, didn't want to let my team down.  But it was so confusing and hard to figure out what was going on, that I just excused myself in chat, and quit.  Not much else I could do.

Other than that, I don't think I've been the first quitter on my team ever. Sure, someone else leaves in the first 4 minutes, and I'll often request a Remake, but if a teammate quits because the game is in the end game, I'll at least just crystal camp until the end so the other team gets the favor like they should.

June 15, 2009 8:16:25 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

People who rage quit arent neccessarily assholes ingame, they might be fine, they're just people who crack the sads and cant handle losing. Sure we all get teammates who do frustrating things  - like purchasing priests early or capping the side portals on certain maps allowing the other team to farm the minions but blech, what can you do? Play with friends or familar people is about the only reason to solve that.

It's when you have a close and somewhat intense game and someone quits because they cant handle being killed - or feel humiliated because they're being a feeder that gets me. I had this one prick alt-f4 the other week just as i was about to kill him for the first time. I know and he knew he was about to die, so he bailed. Total retard.

Deepjay my chum diddly umm, as some of the aussie comunity who play with me are aware...i am a merchant seaman by trade this means when i fly offshore i can only play via my telstra gayless itnernet. now sometimes it wont disconnect all day...other times.... but as you said we all kinda know each other. the other thing with the cats on the network cable this isnt so far out...my 2 kitties the fagzors when i dont pat them they come and attack the screen or rub against my hand or attack my mouse or walk past my tower with their faggy tails in the air and pull my modem off... but in saying that its not very often and if they dont get the hint i give them a slap and its problem solverd.

now i know its all been thrashed to la la land but wouldnt it be great if when i disconnect happens or a rage quit a vote box came up... and in this box u have choices eg... legit disc, acceptable quit (citadel is going down in 2 mins), rage quit.... now for the rage quit clicked option, who ever clicks that that player is automaticly added to a pest list (cant join your games if your host or cant connect to u in games....) thus u will remember who this fagzor is and he gets punted?

June 15, 2009 9:11:45 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Well knowing people and their histories makes a difference and i think the new 1.1 is trying to add ways of differentiating between someone who has disconnected and someone who has purposelly quit - and besides, you can usually always tell when someone is doing it on purpose as they'll be losing and/or dying and well, it's just obvious. Connection issues tend to be completely random though of course some would coincidentally happen if the team is losing.

I have no issues with genuine problems, just this new breed of pricks who show up and drop a few excuses to form an exit point before bailing. Luckily in our smaller community they cant really hide.

lol hey mixmagic!

deepjay have u gotten a grey screen mid battle  do u have a life and have u ever gotten pissed off with the lag and left OF FUCKING COURSE YOU HAVE

ohh come fucking on  everyone gets some errors in this game  everyone has some sort of life  and everyone hates lagso dont bitch about one thing and if u were owning them  then you would have won with in the first 20 mins

owning is when the oposing team doesn't/didn't stand a chance  if it takes you 30 mins to win and they are stuck in there base  then that is you fucking arround  and not winning because of it

and if your stupid enough to thing that alt f4 is the only way to crash a game you are a retard

June 16, 2009 12:37:53 AM from Stardock Forums Stardock Forums

Actually had a case where a friend of mine's screen would just spin in circles.  Not idea what caused the bug, but I was on VOIP with him and everything and I know him irl and have played Demigod with him tons of times so I know he wasn't trying to justify a ragequit (particularly not less than fifteen seconds into the match and the match after that)- he ended-up needing to restart his computer and so he did that and everything was fine after that.

So yeah, there are some valid problems with the game that do crop up.  Does that mean that everyone who claims to have a problem actually has a problem?  No.  But do such problems exist?  Yes.

June 16, 2009 12:59:08 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I just wanna say, I get a stupid joy out of finishing a game when you people quit right away after a lucky kill or something early. Give them the lose they deserve.

Quoting InfiniteVengeance,

"Sorry, crit error, gotta go"

It's funny because it's true.

Btw: My house is on fire, gotta go!

Ever wondered if you would actually bother saying that if your house caught fire? I can almost see some guy calmly letting his house burn down while he explains why he has to leave to his teammates.
