How can a QoT counter a mine spam/snipe regulus?

By on June 10, 2009 11:06:10 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

I have just finished with a rather infuriating 2v2 on Cataract as a Goddess of Thorns build QoT with an angel build Regulus vs a mine spamming/sniping regulus and Hammer Slam Rook. Coming back after a fairly long break from the game.

The Rook was fairly easily counterable, as I could comfortably outrun him and he had no tower farms to worry about and his Hammer Slams were easy to dodge for the most part. I believe I was also doing pretty well with QoT, I didn't once get caught out in open form when i shouldn't have been closed.

I bought Plenor, Vlemish, Boots of Speed and wyrmslayer gauntlets along with flag locks and telescrolls.

Early game was pretty well evenly matched, and whilst they had a slight advantage in terms of flag capping we were farming far more creeps, and so we were roughly even in terms of level. Around level 5 we started getting pelted by periodic snipes for around 750-800ish (I promish I am not exaguerrating) but otherwise manageable. Around level 10 the regulus started spamming triplemines at every cooldown, typically at my feet, taking around 70% of my health with one hit (precious little , no matter what I tried I couldn't get out of the way of them before detonation or my minions would be sluggish and trigger them onto me anyway, and even if I could I cannot see how I could have survived the situation, if i ran towards him he would just run and retreat behind his tower lines with my regulus lagging behing trying to avoid the mines, if i ran away from him then i couldn't attack whilst he pelts the living tar out of me. Combined with Mark of the Betrayer rendering my bramble shilds paper thin I had no way of defending against the follow up snipes.

The problem wasn't the fact that they were invisible, rather that i felt i had no way to deal with them, at least not in enough time to save my skin. Also I was frankly horrified at the speed the mines raped our towers, and I am at a loss at how that regulus could have been spamming them at the rate he did. We were pretty even up until the point of the mines coming in so i can't see how he could have gotten enough money for a heart of life.

I know that we were most likely (read: definitely) behind on war score, but i fail to see how that could alter the problem i have with his mines. I have read at length at how awesomesauce mine strats are on regulus guides but I haven't seen any hints as to how to counter them either here or on the gamereplays forums.

Please, any help would be appreciated. Any other details needed please ask.

Mines aren't that mana intensive, he certainly doesn't need HoL. Even with MoB, Vlemmings plus Sacred helm can last a while. If he has Blade of the serpents he doesn't need HoL at all for mana.

The best way is to cast shield before he casts MoB. MoB only activates when you cast the shield. I am a Regulus player not QoT player so I don't know much but, you could cast a shield to nullify his mines and go on agreesive since MoB has quite a short range (about the same as mines). If you can refresh your shield after mines and before he has chance to cast MoB. QoT spamming shield is actually the best DG to be countering a snipe/mine Regulus.  Your Regulus teamate should also have used snipe build. Snipe is the best counter versus another Regulus.

Use 1 minion to trigger mines, then kill regulus with minions (Mark wont work with those). You can Munch shambers and they do damage. Munch the one with lowest health if regulus attacks him. This ofc requires alot of mirco. Most generals do. Ground spikes works to slow/reduce regulus armor... try not to get marked.

Trigger mines with 1 minion. Haste Minions onto Regulus. Ground spike. Munch. Then attack yourself. Munch.

Mulch tanking should allow you to get through this.  If you're also level ten, grab Mulch 2 and everytime you get hit with a triple mine just hit Summon+Mulch.  Let your ally do the bulk of the damage since you'll be forced to stay in closed the whole time.  If the enemy Reg leaves you to go clear towers, you do the same.  Angel Reg will decimate towers after you Ground Spike, much faster than the Mine Reg will do so.

Make sure you wait until after the mines detonate to summon the Shambler.

Thanks to you all for the swift reply, the guide I was trying said not to use mulch shambler at all as it is apparrently reactive and 'reactive abilities are pointless' or words to that effect, I usually use mulch in normal play but I do find I just end up being stuck in my bulb and being completely ineffectual, so it seems i have little choice than to put my points in summon/mulch again and spend all my time inside my flower again... in fact I think i may just switch demigod. QoT just isn't for me it seems. Thank you anyway, +1 karma to you all!

Micro? Just have your minions attack Regulus. Minotaurs/Shamblers will pop off his mines and then either warp onto him with Cloak of Night favor item or Spike wave to slow him. He will start to run away. QoT is a hard to master demigod, but she is worth it. GL

Watch the Reg animations. As soon as you see him reach into his pocket to pull out the mines, then simply move.

You have two choices, you move back, then move a minion up or wait for a creep to take them out.

You go offensive and move forward, hope that you don't have to retreat, or remember to stick to a side.

Mines are really only dangerous, if you decide that you can just sit there and slug it out.

If you know they are mines build, then keep moving around.

MoB is a little harder to deal with, but I have found it rarely makes too much of a dent, unless I am taking a beating.

The problem is that playing an offensive QoT against mines Reg is bad, you have to get in close, this is gonna mean you can't react to mines.

Playing a minion QoT is much easier. You keep your range and harass him, you know when the mines are coming as he will have to run in a bit to you, or the actual time they are flying out gives you enough time to move.

The trouble is that you picked the wrong build. Against a nova Reg you would have had better luck, but a mines Reg is bad news for that build.

QoT is not designed to be a DG killer, your Nova Reg buddy should have been backing you up, pushing him back.

Spend 150 gold on three Eyes, and drop one whenever you are near Reg.  The trick then is to just make sure he doesn't grenade-mine you. Use your minions to as good effect as possible, and realize that when all is said and done, it is a poor match.  Assist somewhere else.

It's like a snipe build Reg in the same lane as Torch Bearer.. snipe just doesn't stand a chance at close range against a DPSer like TB (especially with fireball).
