Is this game worth my time ?

By on June 9, 2009 5:30:13 AM from Stardock Forums Stardock Forums

I'm seeing a lot of doom and gloom in these forums and for someone who's looking at purchasing Demigod it's a real turn off. I know forums are about the worst place to judge a game because it is the whiners who use the forums the most, but it’s hard to spend the 100 NZD for a game when everyone who plays it seems to bag it.

TBH, The only thing that concerns me is the Multiplayer connectivity problem, Things like more Demigods/Maps and balance will come with time, DotA is pretty well balanced if you know how to play each hero and how to counter each hero, but that came after years of patches.

What I want too know is, Just how bad are the connectivity problems really right now as the game stands and are the developers dedicated to fixing the games problems ? There is another thread around with the developer saying we should cut it loose and run from Demigod ?!?!?

This game looks exciting, Unreal meets DotA is what I'm seeing and I'm sure I'd enjoy it, I'm sure I can ride out the problem but I will they be fixed soon so demigod can appeal to new players and grow ?

Told ya'll so.

It's a fun game.  A demo is a-coming.  Give that a try first.

I enjoy it. Connection issues are getting better but not perfect. It wil be better for us kiwis once smart proxying is up this week. Even with all the issues I find the game itself an absolute blast and enjoy a couple of games a night.

P.S. If you are in Wellington and do want to buy it get it from JBhifi. Better yet buy it online, its about $64 NZD (2.8 GB)

This game does have its quirks and kinks. I used to get really angry while playing. Then I took almost 2 weeks off, came back and everything is honkey dory Great game, needs more content (hoping it will arrive sometime soon)!

It's such a great Game!

If you don't have big conection problems... well i play it longer most days, then i did MMORPGs... and MMORPGS really took MUCH of my time... but Demigod beats that

But i know right... there's a 100% refund if you are not happy with the game... so the only answer can be: Why are you not already playing?!

really, the game has issues. the online stats are totally messed up... sounds bad?

well, but... IT IS THE MOST FUN GAME I PLAYED THE LSAT YEARS!

even though it has major issues which i really hope that they get fixed soon. not because they make the game a pain but because they may prevent many other palyers to joind us ni demigod.

but anyway, it is long long time ago i had so much fun with a pc game. i can't barely await new maps, fixes... and some friends joining me in dmigod adventures. so, i would suggest if you do not want to spend the mony now, wait fr the upcomming demo or try it at a friends pc.

the game itself is pretty good, the devs has been able to make a variation on the principe of dota and not just make a clone of that mod.

But it has also had a lot of problems, most of them are gone now and the devs seem to be working hard to solve those that remain. The next update is meant to solve all of the netcode problems, i doubt it will but the connectivity should be at least decent.

June 9, 2009 6:30:55 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

it really is a good game imo; very well executed, nice graphics, epic gameplay

this deserves 100s of thousands of gamers and with some effort they should be able to get em

I dont mind it has some (connectivity) issues, surely its in the devs best interest to solve them because atm its the main thing that is holding back sales

The good side of this is that it scares off the casual/lazy gamer and gives this game a rather hardcore competitive flavour, which is a niche because most games are so dumbed down for mass consuming they arent fun at all.

btw my digital download was only 1.8gb (compressed file) 2.8gb on disc and i think the price was real fair

If you are a casual gamer, don't buy it (yet).

Skirmish and Pantheon are not working properly and if you don't know how to forward ports on your router you are probably doomed anyway.

The game is great but tons of people left because of bugs and connectivity.

June 9, 2009 7:04:41 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Casual gamers can play the custom games fine no?

I'd say go for it! The game is already a blast in singleplayer and bar a few minor experiences I have had plenty of fine games online too.

yeh .... the game is really addictively fun. ive been playing hours straight. most so far has been like 6 hours lol.

it does have online issues ... just played a really really laggy game couple of hours ago in pantheon, which wasnt that fun (especially as TB).

All problems aside the game is fun, if it was not, no one would of stuck around.

If you do purchase it, I recommend you play through singleplayer for a while and become familiar with one of the characters, then go on the strategies forum and see what people are doing with that character. You should now be able to absolutely demolish the AI, sometihng like 10 - 20 kills/ 1-3 deaths is a reasonable kills-deaths to have at the end of the game playing against hard AI...

Then come online and you should be able to play without getting whipped

Once you're online you should be able to play in Australian, New Zealand, and possibly US West custom games without any issues with lag.

Well, with all this positive feedback I am going to go ahead and purchase the game as well. I was tracking this game last year, but totally forgot about it when I start playing WoW again =/

However, I have now come to my senses and cancelled my WoW account for good, plus being able to be refunded for the game is pretty sweet too. Hopefully Stardock can work the kinks out of this game, because they did such an amazing job with SoASE.

Yes, this game is great. If you don't like it after purchase, you can get a full refund. There's no real reason not to try it at least.

Welcome, I hope you get Demigod because it is a great game and works well IMO. The people who spend all their time raving about how the game doesn't work are obviously not playing the game. And people who's game works are playing and not wasting their time raving about how the games does work... well... except me... lol

I am pretty sure anyone who says the game doesn't work, it is their fault. Their OS is old and buggy. Their computer is old. Their router sucks, their ISP sucks, etc. I've gotten this game working fine on both XP and Vista and a wide range of computers (performace wise).

Demigod works, people don't.

Yes the biggest (not the one and only, no need to flame ) problems are "cheap" preconfigured PCs.... doesn't matter which game it is.

Or you have an ISP like a firend of mine that blocks the UDP Ports... But he isn't that sad about it... With Gameranger or Hamachi he still has fun

June 9, 2009 12:38:35 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

If you have friends you can have play on your team, the game is MORE then worth it.

It's still worth it without friends who play, but not nearly as much.

June 9, 2009 12:55:48 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

The mechanics of the game are amazing, well designed, and enjoyable.

There are serious connection issues to this date, and there is no real competitive system.  If you want to be a competitive player, you go to custom games, and look for other premades.  Or you use an alternative game-finding sytem.

I lol at that because I don't understand the rational. Because you know your allies are good or something? Being "pro" should mean you can handle any situation IMO.

Much respect to those pantheon and skirmish players with high wins to losses, I have no clue how they do it.

Well, yes, that is the rationale.

Obviously a "pro" player should be able to handle any situation, but to be honest, DG is a team game.

If you want to be competitive, you want to eliminate as much random chance as possible.  I.E, you don't want your teams(or the teams of your opponents) to be inherently stacked poorly because of differences in skill, playstyle, latency, etc etc.

A premade team vs. a premade team is going to result in the most competitive, balanced matchup available, and that's all there is to it.

Also, the peope with high win ratios are most likely at least in large part lucky.  Due to so many 2v1, 2v0, 4v0 game starts, I have seen plenty of amazing players that have absolutely terrible ratings in Pantheon.

Fair enough
