Some Visuals Broken or Missing on NVidia 7xxx Series Cards

By on May 5, 2009 4:09:36 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

An old thread that identified this issue that has fallen off the front page on the tech support forum.  I figured rather than bumping the thread, a new one that outlines the exact problem might be better off.

The symptoms of the problem are some visual effects not appearing correctly, or not appearing at all.  It doesn't affect visual quality, but it seems to affect some kind of transparant visuals.  The problem occurs regardless of the visual quality settings of the game, and occur even on the highest graphics settings.

Effects that appear to be affected:

- Queen of Thorn's Bramble Shield is not visible at all.
- The puddle like effect from Unclean Beast's spit is not visible.
- The fire effect from Torch Bearer's Ring of Fire does is not visible.
- The mist effect from Erebus's Mist skill is not visible (because erebus is also invisible, it looks like he has teleported).
- The visual effect that shows where a player is teleporting to is not visible.
- The trail on the shots from the Trebuchet (Rook and Fortress) are not visible.
- The trail on the shot from Regulus's Snipe does not appear correct.
- The glow around items is not visible.
- The visual effect for leveling up is not visible.
- The glow effect that shows when a flag is being captured is not visible.

There are likely more, but these are just what was reported.  Not all visuals break, only some appear to.  All the broken visuals seem to be created using some kind of transparancy / blending.

A video is available on youtube that shows some of these problems. See Youtube: Demigod - Missing Visual Effects

Confirm same issue using 7950 GT. Have tried every combination of game/card settings I can think of and no change. Latest Nvidia drivers.

Same here, Nvidia 7600.  I am missing quite a few visuals which tick me off.  Kind of hard to know if you are standing in Torchbearers cirlce of fire if you can't see it.  I also can't see Erebus's mist form (he basically just vanishes from the screen).  Lots of other little things too that have been mentioned.

Save here, Nvidia 7900.  I actually would have NEVER even know all that stuff was even suppose to show, but I saw a gameplay video on U-Tube, and said "Hey, why don't I ever see any of those effects"?  Even went in and checked the video settings to see if I had something Low or Off.

Some of it is really important; like above, you can be standing the the TB ring of fire, and not even know it till you see your hitbar going down and figure out why.   And when Cerb is in mist, again, you just can't see him (I thought he had teleported out every time), and your losing lifepoints.  And yes, I have the latest drives (and a dual core, if that even matters).

Thats interesting, from the looks of things it affects ALL NVidia 7000 series cards.  Reports so far show it affecting the 7600, 7800, 7900, and 7950 cards.  I wish there was a way to confirm that they've seen this issue, having an entire series of video cards affected is a pretty big deal.

It also seems as though a lot of people aren't even aware that they're missing those visuals.  They're important, but there's nothing that indicates it should be there, it just comes off as what appears to be a lack of polish.  Took me playing the game on my friends PC to realize something was wrong. If it was just visual quality I wouldn't mind but you're at a huge disadvantage without being able to see those skills compared to those that can.  That and they make the game look a lot better.

Confirmed with a Geforce Go 7900 GS.  Noticed the differences when my one friend had the effects and the other one didn't.  I know I'm unlikely to do more than play on their computers when we hang out unless this bug gets fixed.  But I can tell you I'll be buying for sure when this bug is gone!

This is a repost from another thread. Have the same problem with a nVidia 7950 GX2...

Bumping thread back to page 1... looking for some confirmation on the problem.

I actually didn't notice that there were missing effects until I saw the video match with Frogboy posted today-ish. All the really pretty effects, like the particles on Torchbearer's staff and weapon shots, and Sedna's bramble sheild, are missing!

I'm using a 7900GS with the latest drivers and tried setting all visuals to their absolute possible maximum.

I'm already on the list of people with this issue: To clarify, my card is specifically a 7950 GT.  Also, yes I can confirm that I am completely up to date on drivers, etc.

I contacted stardock tech support, and they say they forwarded the issue to GPG, and that we should see a response on the forums if any solution is found.

This  was after following all of the usual troubleshooting with tech support, so due diligence has already been done.  For now, I suppose we wait...

I can second this.

I installed the game on a friend's computer, and have played the game WAY more because of all the pretty effects.  I cannot see the Bramble Shield, any special "lighting" effects from the Rook or whatever.  I didn't even know heroes "lit" up when they leveled like on WoW or WC3.  It makes the game a whole bunch better with all the pretty visuals.  There's an overall "lightness" or "holyness" that this game feels with certain heroes that is lost.  It's like an ambiance or aura around heroes that is lost. I would like this adressed ASAP because I don't like playing it without all the special effects.

I have an XPS M1710 Laptop with a GeForce 7900 GS

P.S.  This really affects gameplay tremendously.  I really hope this issue is addressed, and it isn't just thrown to the wayside.  The game seems really bland and it's a shame it doesn't say on the box that only half the visual pizzaz and special effects to the game work with any of the 7600+ cards.  I'm really surprised that no beta tester had this card and it was not addressed in testing.  I'm guessing that the connectivity issues were more important, as well they should have been, but now it's about the problems that people are facing now that they get in the games.  I can't believe how boring the game is without the visuals.  It's like it's missing a whole lot more than what's been mentioned above, I can't even describe the visuals that are lost that render the game so blah.

Same here.  I've got a 7950 GT.  Sometimes it's ok-ish, sometimes it's mostly-solid-white, it's often flickery, I've fiddled with video settings as much as I can and it's not improved at all.

I hope there is a fix soon too.  I've walked into a TB's fire circle several times today; have no idea if the QoT shield is on (waste a snipe on her), all sorts of things.  It's not just cosmetic.

This last patch seems to have fixed this for me.  Hopefully the rest of you too?

It hasn't for me...

I'm having the problem too. As other people alluded to earlier, i didn't even know I had the problem until I played the game on my laptop which had the correct visuals (but suffers from the /nosound problem).

No fix here; got the new update, and (for you others) the new Nvidia driver is out too, so I downloaded/installed that.  Still missing graphics though.

May 13, 2009 4:08:01 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

false alarm ;/  i checked what it should be on a vid again and i'm still missing graphics.  i assumed it was fixed because this update did, at least for me, stop my graphics from flickering transparent / no-palate type garbage randomly.

It's at least playable for me now.  still incomplete, but at least i can play enough to decide how big of a problem that is for me.

Silly me for thinking one graphical problem being fixed = graphical problem fixed (totally).

Just wanna point out that I've changed my nick from Playdoh to SyDaemon. The OP might wish to update the first post.

Can I suggest you mail this to [email protected] - then you'll have to get a response & have a ticket number to track the problem?

May 13, 2009 7:53:43 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

GPG is aware of it as one of their game designers suffers from it too , I hope they fix it soon.

you can also add that the teleport effect is missing to your list

May 13, 2009 11:32:56 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

New patch doesn't fix it for me, nor do the latest nvidia drivers.

It is worth a shot to at least try [email protected].  For me, they simply said that they have forwaded the issue to GPG, but perhaps others have slightly different issues that are solvable.

New Patch didn't do anything for me, either.  Any word otherwise?

May 23, 2009 5:13:07 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Still not fixed for me. Got a 7900 GS here. Game updated, video drivers updated and all. The disadvantage of not being able to see some of these effects (mist, circle of fire) is ridiculous. Anyone sure that GPG IS actually working to figure this thing out? If they're not I'm kinda pissed and feel ignored, because this issue has been voiced a lot and still no fix is out.

Their top priority is the connectivity right now, which I agree with. I'm pretty sure they'll come around this after the connectivity problems have stabilized. TheBigOne mentioned that one of their designers have a 7 series card too, so they must know and I trust will get to it eventually. I really won't use the word "ignored" just yet.

May 23, 2009 9:11:31 PM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

While I understand that the connectivity issues are top priority, it would be very helpful to us with this particular issue if we could get some official acknowledgement, even if it's just a "we're looking into this" post.
