Laptop not Booting

When it rains it's pours

By on August 1, 2008 8:24:02 PM from WinCustomize Forums WinCustomize Forums
Now it's my wife's laptop.
She has a Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop. No virus' that I know of and has been running fine.
When you start it, the light on the start button comes on. You can hear the cooling fan..but I don't hear the HD doing anything at all and nothing at all is appearing on the screen. I'm thinking the HD is shot. The laptop is about 2 years old. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

uPDATE...
The power light comes on...all the led lights come on. I have looked and know there was a battery recall, but this battery does not meet the requirements. I cannot find anything that says whether this particular model will run without a battery or with a bad battery. Currently, my wife has it plugged up and charging just incase the battery is dead.

Laptop should be able to boot without battery. Have you tried that? Bad batteries, in other hand may cause booting problems. If it was only hard drive issues, you should be able to be seeing POST boot process in least.

Actually it should be able to boot without hard drive, it will simply display boot disk not found and stop there. You might want to try that by removing hard drive and trying to boot it with and without battery.

Do you use hibernate mode? I've seen laptops get stuck in hibernation. If so, you might try starting in Safe Mode and shutting off hibernation.

There comes a cable to run laptop with AC or DC. You wont need battery in that case. Get that.

Po'...you're a pain in the ass...????

Remove battery and/or unplug power cable. Press Power button and hold (count to 10 and release). Plug in AC/Battery power cable. Press Power button.

Jafo is wise to yrag's tricks....

He actually sneaks into people's homes and causes the errors....

....then comes on here and 'magically' solves them.

There's a medical/mental disorder for that sort of thing.....

After, of course. I'm too technically challenged to hack Etch-A-Sketch.

Make sure it glows. Don't want Jafo to stub toes in the dark.
