I take it I shouldn't bother with the beta...

Sadness... being in the sins beta made me happy (had it since beta 1) but with my PoS computer I don't think that will happen

Ouch! Time for an upgrade. I just did mine in Feb and I am so glad I did.

Take your tax rebate next month and build a kick butt computer.
April 9, 2008 11:00:48
Just remember the tax rebate counts as income. In other words it is not as big as it looks. From your specs looks like you may just need to bump up the RAM a little and get a better GFX card.

The problem is if your motherboard is AGP (which I suspect it is), it's just better to scrap it and finally go PCI Express. Spending the extra money to attempt to get an AGP system up to snuff is just money wasted.

it's on the supcom engine..
But hopefully it'll run significantly better than supcom does otherwise a ton of potential customers will be missed on.

But that graphics card is so old. You can get a 7800gt now for like $100 can't you?
April 9, 2008 19:47:24
Yeah 7800 are pretty cheap and still are agp. I also read recently I think it was in a gamespy article with an interview with Brad that the engine is tweaked to run 10x faster then supcom.
April 9, 2008 19:59:55
10x?... Okay that's a little lofty to claim..

Just 3x better would be nice though. Supcom runs like 1/3rd or 1/4th as good as sins. :x
April 9, 2008 20:52:48
Oh boy now I better find the article. It looks like it was not gamespy. I know it said in quotes about it being 10x faster because it really stuck out to me. Probably in actual chat it was one of those exagerations like to tell someone something is faster you say it is like 10x faster.

Brad mentioned it in reply #3 here.

Okay even if it runs 10x better, I bet it requires ShaderModel 2.0

That means 6600 or better.

AND HOLYCRAP BRAD IS FROGBOY?

Omg I had no idea... no wonder member #1

Yep it is a BIG secret. It is nice to have the main guy chatting on the forums so you get all the official info.

LOL thanks for the responses! I hope to get a job soon at a Best Buy that is opening near me (Dunno when though. I will preorder before the new computer so I get the beta! Speaking of which, when does it close? I hope Frogboy gives a week warning like he did for sins!). I won't tax because I'm 16! (I think). I already have 200 USD saved and it shouldn't take all that long to get 600-800 more if I get a job at that Best Buy, pending on when it opens and if they hire 16 year olds. The computer I'm looking at would be from Ibuypower and have a 8600 and 2 GBs RAM. There is also this computer at best buy but it looks like a scam at that cheap (I could've sworn it was 1100 yesterday. Even then its not that cheap, but the same specs on ibuypower would be like $10 cheaper.).

Drat double post! CURSE YOU CODE WRITING PIGEONS!
April 10, 2008 18:04:34
The computer you linked is just $500-$650 of parts so I don't know why you think it'd be a scam.

And if you're talking about waiting a few months you could get a 9600.

the 8600 512mb is just a $100 graphics card. And there are $150 9600's.

That processor is less than $200.
About $125 for motherboard.
$0.20 per gb or less for storage.
$75 or so for 4gb of ddr2 ram.
$150-$200 for a reliable good power supply like an OCZ.
$100-$150 to get a real fancy case like a thermaltake one.

Money left over for a good sound card and 5.1 system..
