It's that time of the year again.  I've been to the track to get my passes etc. .... for the 37th time in a row.

Albert Park [Melbourne] is just 5 days away.  I'm posted at Turn 6 Left [Comms] and Terry's at 5.8 Right [Trackie]

And to think I was 26 years old at that first one I did in 1980 - when Alan Jones was World Champion.

Gone are the days of push-starting Senna [on my own] in Adelaide - I'll leave nudging 700 kilos of F1 to someone younger...

With a bit of luck the cars will be louder again....kinda miss the 120db [getting deaf by now anyway].

Doesn't matter how many times I do it...I'm always looking forward to the next one...

Got to do something roughly similar with air racing/airshows for 9 years.  Ton of fun.  Enjoy it, Paul.

Give me a wave from turn 6, I'll be watching...... I think Lewis is nailed on for another title!

(And Rossi for the MotoGP title!!!!)

Good luck Paul, have fun!!

Last F1 race I worked was 1984 Dallas.  That was the one where Mansell tried to tow his car over the finish line and darn near made it. Enjoy your participation!

I hope they put a few of these on broadcast TV this year...

I'm looking forward to it...[always do].

It'd be great if we were paid for it....

Not looking forward to the early mornings...and long days...and the weather is going to be somewhere between iffy and OK.

Yes, you're right.  If you're into car racing this is about as good as it gets....unless you're a driver, of course...

It's Sunday....Race Day.

The New Qualifying was great for the first 2 sessions....but the third was a fizzle....and needs to change.

....and apart from the Red Bull's paintwork looking superb in real life....that's about it for 'news'.

Quoting Jafo,

....except my feet hurt...

my dad used to take a shooting stick around the golf course with him to rest his dogs when they were barking... maybe get one of these...

Back again.

Race was run and won.

Turn 3 scored another victim or two.  Don't think I've ever seen a more trashed F1....coming past me on the flat bed.  T'was a mess.

You'll never see that chassis running again...

a comment elsewhere reminded me of the dangers of marshalling

Quoting Hankers,

This one?

Yes....that's the one.

Alonso was a lucky lad.  I saw the replays last night... I don't think I've seen a worse prang in an Aussie F1.  terminal speed at the braking point for 3 is around 300+ [kph] so it wasn't a mild bingle.

Was his fault though.  To out brake someone in front of you you really have to not have him in your way...

Track safety HAS improved over time.  Corner 3 was where the Spectator Marshal Graham Beveridge was killed several years ago.  [same time as my wife Terry was on that point].

Of course...meanwhile with the 'drift cars' demonstration ... a Camaro and a Mustang ... on our point [6] while they were going 'WD' the Camaro managed to put it sideways into our flag point and move about 6 ton of fence 40mm while there were flaggies in there.  Just proves that any dickhead can burn rubber an drift a car.  The trick is to actually ALWAYS control it.
