Is Rey a Super Jedi, Is Finn Force Sensitive?

Rey

How is it that Rey was able to over-power the mighty Kylo Ren during interrogation and defeat him in the end? We could blame the fact Ren was injured at the end but still Rey seems a little over-powered against someone who can stop a laser beam mid flight.

One thing i have learnt about people with over powered abilities is that they are always easily seduced by the dark side to keep that power.

Anyway, back on point: Finn

Finn is able to survive so long against Kylo Ren during the lightsaber fight and manages to injure Ren in the process. I guess it could be one of those moments when noobs get lucky or because he's force sensitive, drawn to the light side, can't kill at the beginning of the movie, senses he's got a higher purpose either than running and as a result then mysteriously knows how to wield a lightsaber against a sith lord.

Sigh..I have so many questions.

P.S

My favourite line in the movie is Spoiler: "The Scavenger resisted you"  Which translates to "Your Such a Noob"

The reason she was able to defeat him so easily without breaking a fingernail is because in movies and TV, women never get injured, or defeated for that matter.

It's just one of the rules of the entertainment industry:

Another plot issue:

How did Ren become a Sith?

If Palpatine died in the last movie (original trilogy), who taught Ren to be a Sith?

Did you not watch the film? Ren turned to the dark side during training with Luke who wasn't strong enough to prevent it. That's why Luke disappeared, he couldn't live with his failure. Towards the end Snoke recalls Kylo Ren, saying he needs to complete his training. This would imply Snoke is the dark side master who trained Kylo Ren.

Quoting Fuzzy Logic,

Did you not watch the film?

Well, this will be the last time I get a movie synopsis from a 13 year old...

But that leads to the next question...who trained Snoke?

I shan't bother!  Star Wars never interested me, despite my being a sci-fi fan.

I know somebody who has the entire Star Wars collection [save the last] on bluray, and he invited me to a Star Wars marathon at his place [food & drink provided], but there was no way I could sit through that many hours of < insert derogatory term here > despite there being free food n' grog.

Nah, I stopped at home and watched Game of Thrones on Bluray instead.

I enjoyed the very first star wars (first release - before all the 'parts' were added). It was called, just plain "star wars."  It was a fun romp thru a star fantasy far far away.  Then the solo movie began expanding, new chapters, and it took itself too seriously. I have not seen any of the star wars movies beyond the first three released.  They are just too serious, too much.  And not fun.

Quoting ElanaAhova,

In a cheesy childish sort of way....where every opportunity was taken for 'product placement' advertising of Star Wars junk toys.....the very thing Lucas did the whole crap for in the first place...

As I recall the first ep [4 because idiots can't count] didn't have Yoda.... but it did have a mincing robot....and coffee scrolls for a hair-do...

If you MUST see a Harrison Ford flick...see Blade Runner.  AND it's real SF ...from a REAL writer....

You could say...both were written by a Dick ....but only one refers to his surname...

Yes, Rey is the daughter of Luke (btw Luke was not married to Leia she is his sister). I believe that in the end Snope wants Ben & Rey to marry and have a child to produce the ultimate overloard ( melding Light & Dark) for his own devious purpose.

Does that make him Sith automatically?

Nope...not that one....that was from somewhere else entirely - nothing to do with Star Wars....and it was seen and acquired/revised for the movie.

The 'product placement' reached its all-time low with that land speeder 'race' sequence in one of the eps....went on forever...had no relevance to any feeble plot...and was purely thus to advertise a computer game...

OK, it was acquired because it appeals to little kids.  The net effect is the same.

It will (or probably has already) shown up in McDonald Happy Meal Boxes. And I'm sure I've seen it for sale at toy stores.

Quoting Fuzzy Logic,

It's impossible to have a serious discussion here about anything due to the trolls...

Haters gonna hate

I'm not a hater.  In fact, I watched the 3 original movies and still have them on DVD someplace.  However, they were discussed 'til the cows came home, and what came after has been a pretty dismal attempt at prolonging the franchise.  I sat through the first of the expanded set because my son wanted to see it, and I tolerated about 20 minutes of the next before finding something better to do.  Simply put, they were sub-par and messed with a concept that at least had some substance.

So yeah, I do find it somewhat mystifying that a discussion regarding such dribble has come this far.  I mean, what is there serious to discuss since those original movies? Crappy CGI?  Sub-par/non-existent plots?  Sub-par acting and/or way too much commercialism?  Or ALL of the above?  For mine, it is all of the above, sorry to say, and the last Star Trek movie wasn't much better.

Frankly, Hollywood is putting out a lot of crap lately... remakes of old classic that pale in comparison, or dumb-ass stupid rehashes of comedy classics that should have ended up on the cutting room floor.  It's like the movie studios have GOT to get something out each month, don't matter how bad it is, just so long as it's out there.  Worse still, people pay good money to see it, probably because there's nothing else in cinemas, thus helping to perpetuate a constant stream of crap films.

Actually, I lied!  I AM a hater!  I hate it when movie studios release absolute crap...  those sub-par rehashes of good and great movies, but lacking much of the original story line and/or plot.  Pretty much, most are an insult to one's intelligence.  Sadly, the public isn't demanding better, so it's likely we'll get stuck with a dismal majority of damned awful movies and TV shows.... and don't get me started on that so-called reality crap that's too frequently served up on TV as 'entertainment.

If I ever see another Kardashian, Simmons or Osbourne again, it'll be too fechin' soon.  I have absolutely no need to know how the rich, untalented and largely useless live.

There, that serious enough?

BTW, of the more recent Hollywood releases, Prometheus and Lucy were among the best sci-fi offerings.

There's a fair assumption floating around the tubes that Rey is indeed Luke's daughter, or at the very least already a fully trained Jedi. When Rey finds Luke's lightsaber, she experiences a vision of Kylo Ren's betrayal. The theory goes that this is actually a flashback - Rey was there and experienced it first hand. However, when Luke decided to close down the temple he wiped the minds of all remaining trainees and dumped them across the galaxy. Guess who has a mysterious past of being dumped on remote planets with no memory other than a ship speeding away (it's Rey!). Guess who has an unexplained  and almost supernatural skill with a staff (it's Rey)? And finally, in the ending of the movie when Rey comes face to face with Luke Skywalker, and arguably this is more open to interpretation... but the theory goes that Luke in fact recognizes Rey from before. Luke was at a loss of words even before she pulls out his ol' saberino. At the very least Luke knows who she is, and the only way that could be true is if she is already a jedi.

Also, the one place in the whole universe that happens to have a bot containing the map to Luke's home happens to be on the same planet and the same area where Rey is living. Luke almost certainly made the map himself, but how could it conceivably have ended up on that planet? Occam's razor - he left it there when he visited.

@Heavenfall.

Wouldn't Kylo Ren have recognized her then? Also why the hell would anyone ever do that? Luke's supposed to be a Jedi master not a completely out of control emotional spazz.

Based on what I saw of the movie, and its many plot holes, I doubt we'll get a satisfactory answer. Rey's unexplained badassery is just an example of lazy writing and bad tropes. The answer is going to be because JJ said so and it allowed him to have a cool fight scene.

Makes good sense?  Science fiction....  with more plot holes than a butterfly net?

Mind you, I'm still trying to figure out how they heard Miss Piggy scream in outer space

And how Kermit didn't float away when somebody accidentally opened the airlock.

Some say it was the stick up his arse, but I'm not so sure.

Okay finally saw it and I wanted have to post a few overlooked talking points for future generations of aspiring writers.  I'll focus on the two listed below.

??? Disney went way way too far in an attempt to sell the SW brand to children, most notably cannibalizing Harry Potter.

??? Protagonist character structure does not fit the overall cast structure.

This stuff has gone beyond yet another canon argument.  Everything from the wand lightsaber "chooses its master" to Lord Voldemort the Sith Lord down to Draco Malfoy Kylo Rinn under performing in a fight against the recently hatched novice Harry Potter Rey.  Chances are the viewer has seen both.

Putting little children in serious adult stations is now becoming an overused writers gimmick in entertainment.  It's now being used everywhere from video games like Final Fantasy to Anime and yes motion picture like SW.

Could appointing juveniles like this in charge of your combined armed forces leads to repetitive tactical errs when it comes to constructing -spoilers-?  But hey it is certain to appeal to my kids right?  Look how awesome he is in that uniform!  I mean it's not like they're going to overhear their parents ranting to each other about the movie in general on the ride home.  It's not like the parents remembered or cared about SW unlike other movies.

Finally Rey is a Jason Bourne character cast with a team that has almost zero purpose as a team with her in it.  In SW Han was the pilot, Lando the leader, Chewy the soldier, C3PO the linguist and R2D2 the hacker.  Rey outperforms all of them to obsolescence.  You don't do that unless the character is solo.

This is some of the WORST fan fiction I have ever read.
