So, during the (12 day or so) downtime with the MP servers, I decided to give LoL another go and have been enjoying myself.  I'm glad DG is back up and running, but the break was enough for me to try another competitive DoTa style game and start to enjoy it.  This thread isn't about bashing DG or any nonsense (so don't ffs).  Its simply a place for those of us that play or have played DG and now play LoL as a main or occasionally to discuss the game and keep in touch. 

So - chime in here if you have been playing LoL with your experiences or whatever you want to chat about.

 

I'll get us started.  I've been enjoying the F2P aspect of LoL quite a bit.  Remember WAAAAYYYY back when favor points in DG meant something?  Eg - remember playing games and looking forward to unlocking a favor item you wanted to try out?  It's like that all the time with LoL (well, it will be for quite some time anyway).  You get IP (favor points) for every game you play.  You can shell out some money if you really want to buy all of the characters, etc (the temptation is always there for the quick win), but you can also just play for fun and earn enough IP to unlock a new char, etc.  It's been very satisfying for me slowly earn enough IP to try out a new character, etc.

As it stands, I'm ok with 3 characters (card guy, silv, and viking pants - there are so many char it takes awhile to learn all the names).  I'm ok early, decent mid game, and utter SHITE late game with my characters.  It seems very diff from DG in that respect (if we are kicking ass early/mid, you can't harass like a god late game - that's gotten me killed more than a few times).  There are ALOT of reasonable builds (from what I can tell).  I started by trying out many diff char vs ai to learn them (that's why I'm like level 12 with "13 wins" or so).  Then I learned you get more IP from playing against humans, so I just switched up.

Anyway, I think the game is fun now and I'm looking forward to the new domination mode (it's a Demigod knock off imo) that is essentially holding points to get bonuses from what I understand.  Hearing about that mode is pretty much exactly why I started playing.  Oh, and pretty damn close to 100% of games end because another team beat you - not because someone dropped. 

Anyway, I'm going thru a learning curve.  I play with folks that are "experienced" and I often think they are retarded after my impressive 40 games or so (vs their 500+ games).  The strats often sound idiotic to me.  But that said, I fell into line in a game with jon, paint, obi, and 2 of jon's clan mates tonight and we scored a win when i thought we were done.  My biggest weakness (I think anyway) is not knowing what folks can do with their characters... I think there are like 70 char... as a new player, you have NO IDEA what each char can do until you play them or play against them enough... and that will take some time.  Anyway, I'm pacov on LoL if you play and want to add me as a friend.  I'm not exactly good, but I probably won't lose you the game at this point.  We should organize some LoL games and some DG games.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you.

Graves, the Outlaw
  • Buckshot: Graves fires three bullets in a cone damaging all enemies in the projectiles path. Enemies at close range can be hit by multiple projectiles, but each one beyond the first will deal reduced damage.
  • Smokescreen: Graves fires a smoke canister at the target area that deals damage and creates a cloud of smoke. Enemies inside the smoke cloud have reduced sight range and movement speed.
  • Quickdraw: Graves dashes forward gaining an attack speed boost for several seconds. Attacking enemies lowers the cooldown of this skill.
  • Collateral Damage (Ultimate): Graves fires an explosive shell dealing heavy damage to the first target it hits. After hitting a champion or reaching the end of its range the shell explodes dealing damage in a cone behind the target.
  • True Grit (Passive): Graves gains increasing armor and magic resistance the longer he remains in combat.

    • Now has a base damage of 20/32/44/56/68 per second
    • Duration has been adjusted to 4 seconds at all levels
    • Scales with 0.4 bonus Attack Damage ratio per second, from 0.4 total Attack Damage ratio every second

  • Raise Morale
    • Active movement speed reduced to 8/11/14/17/20 from 10/14/18/22/26
    • Active attack damage reduced to 12/19/26/33/40 from 14/22/30/38/46

Kog'Maw
  • Bio-Arcane Barrage duration reduced to 8 seconds from 10

Orianna
  • Basic attack range increased to 525 from 500

Riven
  • Broken Wings
    • Now counts as an attack command when you use it to lock-onto a target.
    • Slightly extended duration of collision ignoring with minions after using this ability

Shaco
  • Health per level increased to 84 from 80
  • Base Health increased to 525 from 501
  • Base Mana increased to 270 from 250

Skarner
  • Attack Speed per level increased to 2.1% from 1.44%
  • Energize will no longer activate when attacking Towers.
  • Crystal Slash Mana cost decreased to 15 at all ranks from 22/24/26/28/30
  • Fracture will now heal Skarner if Fracture kills its target.
  • Impale duration increased to 1.75 from 1.5 seconds

Talon
  • Base health regeneration reduced to 7.25 per 5 seconds from 9.5
  • Base mana regeneration reduced to 6.75 per 5 seconds from 10

Dominion
  • Ambient experience gain has been lowered by 10%
  • Lowered the point where Nexus Health will only be affected by holding capture points (and not by Champion Kills or Neutralizes) to 100 Nexus Health from 125 Nexus Health
  • Health Pack pickups will now grant 20% more Mana
  • Personal Scoring has been adjusted to more evenly reward defensive play:
    • Minion Kill reward increased to 2 points from 1
    • Channel Interrupt reward increased to 5 from 2
    • Martyr (dying on point) now gives an additional 10 points over its previous bonus
    • Point defense bonus is granted more regularly
    • There is now a score bonus associated with getting a Champion kill or assist while being on or near a point.

Items
  • Tear of the Goddess, Archangel's Staff, and Manamune now display their current bonus mana again
  • Hextech Gunblade
    • Attack Damage reduced to 40 from 60
    • Ability Power reduced to 70 from 75
    • Life Steal reduced to 15% from 20%
    • Spell Vamp reduced to 20% from 25% and is now UNIQUE

WTF with the hardcore nerfing on the Gunblade.

 

Not cool.  Outside of pure hybrids like Akali, I can't imagine being dumb enough to use one, and it's probably still sub par on anyone but Akali.  Bilgewater Cutlass is a lousy ass item, Blowing another 600 for a slightly better one isn't an improvement.  You're better off taking WOTA and stopping at a scepter till you can afford a Bloodthirster, it was already a hard choice to make.  Now it's just plain sub optimal, instead of just a long time coming in usefulness.  An end game item for when someone else already has WOTA.

Re: AP Sion - I generally take the lane guesswork out of it.  I've just been beelining for bot lane immediately at the start - haven't had anyone complain to me about that yet.  Having a teammate that understands Sion's abilities makes it VERY easy to get early kills and get some additional AP into the build.  And having that stun is great for killing ults off (like kat, for instance).  Anyway, I've had mostly success - the only times when I've had issues so far is at mid during large team battles where I'm toward the front.  An 800 hp shield is great, but can only take so much nuking.

 

At the normal ELO you are around people dont really care much about lane assignments.

Once you start playing ranked (assuming that you can get to a reasonable ELO), people will NOT be OK with AP Sion beelining bot and you will get yelled at for doing it.  Generally there is a lot of discussion of lane assignments before and during the picking process.  Most AD carries will not be OK with being forced out of bot lane (with the exception of Caits), which makes playing Sion more difficult.

In normal you can do whatever you want really, but its a different beast in ranked where people are trying a lot harder, which means maximizing lane assignments.

quick caveat before this picture - we got destroyed in the previous game (we were mostly just randomly mixed in the previous game, but my team got whooped).  That said, look at all the DG folks playing up some LOL.  We did 2 5v5 in house games tonight.  Was alot of fun.

Pacov - you might want to think about building Lichbane after Deatchcap on AP Sion.  It greatly increases his damage output since he is one of the few casters to get into melee range.

oi guys i play LoL too!!.......am level 28 but cant say how skilled i am, winning a few, losing a few ....pretty good with chogath and kogmaw (too bad they nerfing him)

Well, to be fair, I went pretty far from what I do in normal games with sion, though.  I typically don't get angel or the veil on this build, I just chose to because we were pretty far ahead and felt like we needed a little more tankiness to end the game.

But that said, I don't ever get lichbane after deathcap on my normal build, so I'll give that a go and check out the stats.  Thanks.

You are welcome to join in if you like.  Add me (pacov).  I'll get you into a some games if you are on when I am.  I'm in EST and typically play between 7pm EST and 11PM EST or so weeknights and fluctuate quite a bit on the weekends.

I'm really starting to jones about forming a competitive team.  The idea of having a badass team and actually competing in tournaments becomes more and more appealing. 

I think its about time for me to start playing ranked solo queue.  Question - can you play a ranked game with just 1 of your buds?  Eg I invite someone to a lobby then launched?  Or is ranked solo play truly all random people without any of their pals playing?  Can you only play ranked 5 man games if you have 5 of your buds?  never done it so I'm not sure how it all works.

So, I unlocked graves last night with rp (and i grabbed garen as well for 1350 ip).  I like graves, but I'm not a huge fan of his ultimate in practice.  Wish it was true damage, but I'm sure that would be op.  Anyway, at least with how I'm playing him (similar item build to tryn) he's exceptionally strong at holding a lane solo even vs 2.  He starts so so.  By mid game he's probably one of the stronger characters I've played with.  And late game his power level seems to drop a little bit in comparison to other characters.  Anyway, he's fun to use at the very least.  Trying to work on the best use of his smoke screen.  I think, because it reduces enemy vision a lot it, it will be highly useful once I come up with the best ways to utilize it.  His dash ability is also nice for forcing some additional aa damage (eg hop forward and even if the enemy is running you still land 2-3 aa hits - and if you have crits (you should) its even worse for the enemy).  His passive is pretty decent as well.  If you get into a battle with creeps, you stack (up to 10) armor and magic resist.  This effect stays as long as you are in battle and scales throughout the game.  It starts with a max of 10 AR and MR - not sure about the scaled max, but I believe I saw it at 32 AR/MR at one point last night.  Anyway, its quite a bit of fun.

Speaking of NOT FUN (heh), had a game with thunder/broyane/cow where we choose what is close to being the absolute worst team comp laning combo ever.  We got destroyed pretty bad.  So, we picked up a temmo as a teammate (fail temmo btw), thunder was alistar, I was sion, broyane was soraka, and cow was jungling with udry.  As you can imagine, or dmg output was amazing.  I was laned bot with soraka vs gp and garen.  As you might imagine, we strangely weren't able to get any kills.  And ofc alistar was going to get any kills soloing top unless the enemy team was silly.  Anyway, our amumu apparently didn't feel like being the ad carry and was useless.  I was certainly a big part of the problem as I foolish locked in before everyone picked their characters.  Ah well, predictable things happened. 

We won the next game (think I went graves), but cow had to piss off to go study. 

 

Re: the hallowing runes.  If you took a look at them, they are all qualified as tier 2.5 (and can be found in the shop by clicking on tier 2).  Anyway, I'm not exactly thrilled that they added tier 2.5 instead of offering something with better stats than tier 3, but I suppose I understand why they might not want to release tier 3.5 items for a limited time as its a little unfair.  Anyway, they actually have some decent deals imo.  I believe the 2.5 health quint is like 1k ip and you get 24 HP for it (vs the tier 3 quint for 2k ip for 26 HP).  I don't really care about that as I have the tier 3 health quints, but its a good value if any of you still need/want health quints (3 tier 3 for 6k (total 78 hp) vs 3 tier 2.5 for 3k (total 72 hp) - thanks for making me feel like a chump, riot.    The ones I'm interested in at the dodge quints.  You get like 1.3% dodge for 1k vs the tier 3 1.5% dodge for 2k.  I might pick up 3 of those.

Anyone know if they do this harrowing stuff each year or if this is the first time around? 

Oh and last, got to play with a skarner yesterday as well (jungle skarner no less).  Anyway, he said the majority of the changes really didn't make any difference to him, but the flat mana cost change to one of his abilities was huge in his opinion.  So, sounds like skarner is a bit more viable now.

You mean a real skarner player?! Instead of a wanna be like me. lol

Yeah his changes wont make you a better players, but if your a fan of him pre patch you be a fan of him post patch.

Its nice to have more mana to play with, saves me from having to build mana regen as a must into my build. Though the nerf to hextech gunblade did throw off my build. I guess I could still use it but...

Anyhow, had a fun match as Skarner playing Twisted Treeline last night. Played well. Had a crazy 2v1 moment.

WW and Graves tried hard to kill me when I jumped Graves while pushing bottom. I would of lost if their WW was stacking AP. Iven never seen a WW do such. He hit hard with is abilites though so I guess its works well. Anyhow, WW ults in and Graves Flashes away. Me and WW just start trading blows, talk about a slug fest. It was a battle of life steal and spell vamp. Got lucky with a last second shield and a crystal slash to his face. He went down with me only having 50 hp left.

Graves shows back up fully healed. Luckly there is a minion wave next to me before he gets there. Fracture and slash that wave healing me up to about half health. Then me and Graves go at it. He runs and about that time my teamaate decides to do something and pick up the kill.

That was the best "Im a freaking crystal Scorpoion moment, rawr" Ive had to date. Sorry to possibly bore with its retelling.

anyways, a question for all the lvl 30 LoL players here, if i am to play a tanky character, what should my Armor, MR and HP be at levels 6, 11 and 16?? what abilities qualifies a character to be a "tank"??

usually CC is what matters - but basically being able to absorb a ton of dmg and initiate.

pacov = super sleepy, but quick note.  I believe I received my first tribunal bonus tonight.  I currently am about to end a 3 day IP bonus perk I purchased with RP.  When I logged on tonight, I had (on top of that) a 10 WIN bonus added (I just looked at my stats and noticed it was there).  AFAIK, I haven't received crap from the tribunal, but I've been doing it every day since I mentioned it in this thread (w/e that was).  Anyway, I just finished a game that my team won - I received like 350 IP. This includes my purchased bonus and the win bonus.  Anyway, just fyi.  It looks like if you participate in the tribunal, they add your IP via win game IP bonuses.  It has taken at least 2-4 weeks for me to receive this bonus, so it seems to take sometime before you see any return for participating in the tribunal. 

Random note - pacov will meet adam west and burt ward tomorrow - I'm that awesome.  I might even pay a few bucks to get them to say "you cannot defeat the pacov god" - in your face zen.

that 10 win IP boost was given to all players by RIOT because they won the golden joystick award for best free game. they boost was promised if LoL won the award.

There is no set number for hp, mr, and armor at a level.  Its whatever you need to be tanky.

A "true" tank needs to be able to do 3 things:

1) Initiate a fight - you want your tank to be able to start a fight if he sees the advantage

2) CC them - a tank has to be able to exert some kind of control over the other team once the fight is started

3) Be tanky - the general goal is to be able to take enough damage so that if they focus fire you, it will take prohibitively long to kill you (giving your carries time to do their thing)

hmmm I don't think I got the 10-win IP boost.

 

Do you have to be level 30? How can you tell if you're boosted? The IP boost thing said it wasn't enabled in the end-game screen...

Had a hilarious match earlier. Chaining pool, Zhonya's, and my GA proc kept me alive throughout the teamfight. Then my health regen and spells let me stay in fights even after being forced out.
