Civilization on Facebook Alpha Test

Civ World Alpha

By on January 6, 2011 3:28:18 PM from Elemental Forums Elemental ForumsExternal Link

Who wants to get together and form a Stardock team?

We need between 5 and 50 players and a team captain.

I want to play but do not have time to captain a team.

Search 'Civilization World' on Facebook for more information.

Civilization on Facebook

You know... this is a reason to start hating somebody, not Civ V...

I'm really curious to see if it will be a worthwhile game, or just another farmville clone. The latter would be the final nail in the coffin for firaxis after Civ V.

But I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt (as long as it doesn't cost me anything), so I'm up for joining a team.

The point of making a game on Facebook is revenue generation.  This is either done through in-game advertising or charging the player for content; buying the game's currency and using it to purchase in game rewards or advancement.  Being as everyone is chasing FarmVille and Zynga's profits, the latter seems more likely - in which case I'll be passing.  I'd don't pay someone to remove the arbtrary progression locks on what is essentially a tread-mil game.  I'd rather play Cow Clicker.

It's so interesting and cringe inducing seeing an older, established game company like Fireaxis shoehorning one of the their biggest IPs into the model of one of the first games from a much less established, recent facebook game company.

Sounds like a pretty nice site...

Also CivVille should burn in the tears of a thousand dead gods!

I'd make sure I was in a country that didn't extradite and that I had a good lawyer before trying it out...
