REPORT: Freeze At Connectivity Screen

Details Enclosed

By on October 7, 2009 12:32:41 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

This problem seems to be popping up a lot, and I'm going to try and centralize the issue.  Please read below for the details, and reply if you see another thread with the same problem report.  If you've had this happen, please reply with a simple "Happened to me too."

Description:

At some point during the match, one person will disconnect with another person.  They will appear to have disconnected, and they both will drop each other, but no one else will drop either of them.  Everyone can still chat, except the two people disconnected cannot see each other's typing.

What I've noticed:

- The game ONLY leaves this screen if one of the two people who have disconnected from each other pulls the plug via control+alt+delete or hard reset.

- The same people tend to get disconnected in this fashion (I'm one of them), but it happens to everyone.  It happens about every third game for me.

Thanks for trying to put all this together.  I had an instance where this occurred.  I'll add some details.  Playing a 3v3.  The connectivity screen pops up.  I notice that I can see everyone chatting EXCEPT one other player.  Somone on my team indicated that they could see what this other player was saying.  I'm guessing that me and the other player could not see each other for some reason.  I was the host of this game.  I think this has to do with the host disconnect handling and assigning a random seat to report stats in the event the host drops.  Anyway, I actually hear my CPU fan start to speed up.  My computer is pretty stable.  Even with demigod.  I eventually am able to drop the game via control+alt+delete.  About 30 seconds pass (the time it would take for me to lag out) and my team is back in the game along with everyone on the other team.  The stats for the game appear as incomplete.  http://pantheon.demigodthegame.com/game/1006915/player/28414/.  There's a game replay from Kalel here (though I doubt that will help.  I believe I dropped out somewhere between 5-8 minutes.  http://www.gamereplays.org/demigod/replays.php?game=51&tab=popular&show=details&id=97585.  I did not have any crash message and the game appeared to be functioning as expected (but the CPU fan kicking up a notch was not such a good thing).

Futile - please be sure to open a ticket with support if possible as well.

Thanks for the added details Pacov, and the karma (half of mine is from you!).  I just raised a ticket for it (FJL-342058), I didn't even realize Stardock had a ticket system!

About the stats. When I had this the stats for the game weren't incomplet.

Yeah... I've seen it happen where the game showed incomplete AND where there were stats.  Not exactly sure why there are stats one time and not the other.

I just received an e-mail from stardock, asking for me to run their report program after the next crash.  In case one of you experience it before I do, here's the letter:

Hello,

We'll need to gather some information to help solve your issue. There are log files that refresh every time the game is closed. Immediately after a crash, disconnect, or lack of connection can you please close Demigod and follow this link in Internet Explorer to gather those log files:

http://sd.stardock.com/Demigod_report.zip

Save the file, run it, and attach the .zip file (located under YOUR USERNAME\My Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod\report) it generates to a return e-mail?
Some email services restrict .zip attachments. If your email won't allow you to send the file, simply change the file extension from .zip to .zzz, and it should send without issues.

Thanks,

Ok.  I haven't submitted those logs yet... when it happens again (surely tonight or tomorrow it will), I'll send the files over to support.

Yesterday (10-13-09), I literally could not complete a single game of demigod due to this problem.  I was able to get into a total of 4 games.  In 3 of them, the connectivity screen came up and froze the game permanently for all players.  In the 4th game, I was just simply booted out of my game, crash to desktop, and I'm sure my teammates saw a disconnect screen pop up while this was happening.  I should also note that while my team did go on to win this game (Yay!), my game list shows this to be a loss for me (Booo):

I'm not one to whine about DG's flaws, as I really enjoy the game and appreciate the work that went into it -- but even my patience has been tested as of late.  Last night was the first time that I just had to stop playing DG because of its bugs and switch to something else.

Nucleus, sorry about the trouble!  Heres some karma to ease your suffering.  If you would download the problem report app at http://sd.stardock.com/Demigod_report.zip and run it right after your next glitched disconnect game, then raise a ticket with stardock, it would help.  I've been trying to do the same with my problem matches, but have had a lot of issues getting the files through to them.

I've been in atleast 10 games now in the last 2 days this very issue has occurred.  I'd have to guess its a proxy connection issue of some kind because its weird that only 2 players would lose connection to each other. Stupid P2P is retarded as hell.  Should;ve had dedicated servers since day one for these very dumb reasons.

I hate the fact that you can't even end your game. You have to end task.  And typically once one person end tasks, then the game continues on. Sometimes it takes 2 people.  What is weird though is that it just doesn't do anything, just sits there with no counter.
