Stop joining Pro games if you are a terrible player

By on July 30, 2009 11:31:59 AM from Demigod Forums Demigod Forums

Since there are so many posts about premade stomps and crying about good players I thought I would add in the most frustrating thing I've noticed.  That is terrible players joining "pro" games.  Casuals want the good players to play more matches against each other, however it seems rather impossible.  Last couple I was in there were plenty of 15-45 players who died 10+ times.  I'm not sure if they can't read, or they think they are pro, or what the deal is.  In any case maybe there wouldn't be so much noob stomp or players "gasp" trying to play with other people they know if they didn't have to constantly run into horrible players joining their team in supposed pro games.

Maybe they thought if they joined a pro game they'd get paid.  Its a tough economy out there.

What's the going rate these days anyway?

meh, this subject really does not seem to generate anything but flames. so no need to fan the flame.

Only Stardock and GPG employees are allowed to play those pro games.

Terrible players rarely check the forums.

(If they checked the forums they wouldn't be terrible)

There's a bunch of new players who are not even played online yet. And that fact looks as normal as positive to me. The public lifetime of this game is not even 4 months!

Should I remind you (not to you.. but you.. ) of that v1.2 will show player's rank/XPerience in custom games?.

Now this is somehow fun to me. Sorry me but... PROs complaining about noobies and noobies complaining about PROs... lol... excuse me though..

Been asking for player rank for some time, I think it will be much easier to set up more competitive games when they do that.  Then you can take one 15-45 player on your team if the other team has a 13-33 player or what not and still have a nice game.

Also I'm not really complaining, I just wanted to post a counter post to the countless topics of premades and people purposely stomping lower level players, when those players themselves constantly are joining (and sometimes ruining) what would otherwise be a very competative premade or good player game.

Funny thing is, the classification of noob or pro lies not in their skill, but in the opinion of others. A good player that uses a certain strategy that has worked in many games and earned him many victories may well be called a noob by someone else who thinks he's a pro, just because he doesn't use a strategy that the other pro likes.

And ofcourse, dying a lot is a bad thing, but does not make you a noob per sé. It could be that his playing style does not match well to the enemy's playing style, or the enemy is just plain better. Even the best soccer teams can lose by several points - and thankfully so else we would only have ties resulting in shootouts. Does that make the 2nd of the tournament a noob?

maybe you should rename topic to Stop Playing Demigod if you are terrible player?

Oh cmon wickedrusher. The guy has a point. Less skilled players love to complain at "premades" and "stompers" but we find a good deal of em joining games labeled "good players or pro players".

Very good point here. I hope people read this. But they probably won't as they are not reading games' title anyway...

Quoting iamKira,

LOL so true.

And yeah Kok, this isn't brand new, but honestly there are so many crying threads about premades that I thought maybe the people who are so worried about that should consider that the opposite happens just as often if not more often.  In fact in a pro game I'd almost say its worse, since there are good players in the game, that terrible player that join dies even more making it impossible for his side to win (unless the other side has a equally terrible player).

@twif - The definition of noob might be subjective in some ways, but the games I'm talking about and the things I've noticed are people dieing 10 plus times.  Even against good players you should be adjusting, falling back faster, staying closer to D, learning what they did that killed you, not being out of position etc.  Feeding them another 1K plus gold is only going to help widen the gap.  Early on a few deaths can be overcome, but if you start having too many its a downhill battle.

Also again, I'm just talking in supposed good players or pro games, there are plenty of other games so of course I'm not suggesting bad players not play the game at all.

Seriously if you're not rank 1,500'ish or better you just shouldn't be joining pro games. The ranking system isn't perfect, it's good enough.

Can't say I agree with you there. My ladder rank is somewhere above 20K but I wouldn't have any qualms with joining a 'pro' game.

I am sure mines pretty high 2 but I can play with any "pro"

you know..thats like all the buddies hopping into a game that says NO premades, then argue they are not premade..he's just my buddy..we're not a premade..(hell I even give them the option to split up....but apparently play with ur buddies doesn't count as a premade..)..odd since they obviously joined the game together to play on the the same team...but I degress....

U both have +50% W/L, thats a good indication, at least for me. Course there r exceptions.

And yes, Noobs join Pro games 100% of the time, really, 100%, if the host dont kick players theres gonna be a noob playing. I have hosted premade games at the topic and noobs joinned the game and didn't know whta "premade" meant, I had to explain, and still, they wanted to play against my premade.

Ps. I always let the "noob" partner to know about the noobish of his team8. If they want to be stomped, well, ok. What u gonna do, right?

Drugfreeboy: He doesn't have a point at all. Noob vs Pro is completely subjective, and with custom games as ranked, there's no way to judge your current skill instead of your skill where you played the most games, especially considering how shitty it is because you can just make whatever settings you like and still get your win ranked.

On the other hand, when you're a team of premades, then it's a fact that everyone on the team knows each other and plays together regularly.

The excpetion doesn't disprove the rule. You're also assuming hosts are incapable of a reasonable conversation. Ignoring the fact that I've played with you, if I were hosting and you explained that you have a good win rate and have played well against high ranked players that'd be that, you wouldn't get kicked.

I stand by rank 1500 as a reasonable filter so long as you don't enforce it mindlessly.

Rank is still bugged. I have nearly a 70% win ratio, but my rank is somehow still 22,000. Going on rank doesn't necessarliy mean you'll be playing good people.

I've found that if I host a game with Pro in the title, I typically get more players who are not very good.  If I host a game with no noobs in the title, I typically get better players.  The world is a strange place...

Wow for real?  A personal attack?

I really shouldn't defend myself but its human nature I suppose.  The first two you list were when I was brand new to the game, didn't even realize I was playing with AI teamates back then, just though (oh they aren't talking).  The other losses were unbalanced teams or leavers on my team.  Not that I'm so good that I couldn't have lost those games, just that really it didn't matter if I was good or not, those games were losses for anyone.  I remember 2 of them were me + 2AI versus 3 players near the end, notice I stayed and got the loss (before I knew you could leave in the first 3 minutes of the game).

Speaking of which, obviously you know the leave within 3 minutes of the game rule.  Since you do it all the time, 6 NA's on your first page alone.  Anyway I play good but never advertised myself to be great or amazing or pro even.  And the OP still stands.  Have fun picking and choosing which Panth games you want to start (probably staying in the ones with enemy AI) while I actually play with people I met in the game or friends in real life.

This is precisely why I don't often title my games with pro.  BTW I get asked often if I know some or all of my teamates because we chat before the game.  I always say yes, and answer any other questions.  We are good players but not some amazing players that can't be beat, in fact we have and do lose to pick up groups.  Especially since the community is small and people start recognizing other peoples names.  Also even when I play with people I know its a lot of time only one person, so I still have one unknown player on my team (enough to destroy us if they suck).
