This is not ideal, and keep in mind we are working on speeding up this process.
No kiddiung.

Progress bars and percentages of completion can never be trusted (see Vista network copying for a prime example).

neophil78,
At this point in time, Impulse and Stardock Central will continue to use the same backup directory and thus if you change it for one it will change it for both. The thinking behind this is that Stardock Central will eventually be phased out and keeping the backup folders as the same location will make it easier to find all of your old Archives. We will take in to consideration your thoughts, but I don't see this changing.

OK but what's the use of it if Impulse can't restore .sdc ?? ???? (as it was said somewhere else)
... and that's why i was asking to get separate backup folders.
Now if Impulse will be OK to restore .sdc it's a good thing SDC and Impulse have the same backup folder ...
Just want to be fixed on that point now ????

Thanks, you were correct, it did eventually finish (~10 minutes on 99%).

I just installed Impulse. Apparently the installation was ok but now i can't log-in. After a while, a nessage appears 'could not connect to servers, working off-line'. So i can't update, archive my games. My SDC account is working fine.
Thanks, Gerry

Will there be a service similar to Steam survey?

I just used Impulse for the first time after being directed to it because I was having a problem with Icon Packager. So I used it. I ran Updates. It ran ok but I have yet to check my apps from Stardock. What I did find was a problem with Impulse when I went to the Desktop section. All my apps were there saying "Installed" or with the updated ones "recently installed. Also the apps I can install but have yet to do so. I choose one of the apps by moving the cursor over it and it highlights. On the right is the description of the app with a button at the button called "More Info" It just takes me to the home page of Impulse, no info. I tried a couple and the result is the same, just takes me to the start page of Impulse. What's up with that?

just takes me to the start page of Impulse.

It will load the store page initially, then it should take you to each programs home page. There you will find features, cost, system requirements, etc. Is this not working for you?

Impulse brower is based on IE, but for some reason the back/forward mouse buttons don't work in it. Even though they work in IE7.

Those don't need to be mapped via the drivers, they are the default functions for mouse buttons 5/6 in windows. (so, it works even with generic mouse drivers).

I am having the same issue that several others have mentioned, and I have not seen a successful solution.

I am using:
Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 (32 bit)
AMD Athlon Processor, 3.0 GHz
2.0 GB RAM

From the beginning when I installed Impule (mid-June) I had inconsistent program startup problems. That is, each time I started Impulse it would hang or freeze. If I restarted it a couple of times, it would usually go ahead and load completely. From there, I could update my Stardock products, browse the community and store, etc. I was also able to close the program successfully. Otherwise, the only way I could close it was through Task Manager.

Since yesterday I have been completely unable to get Impulse started. It hangs on the 'logging in' message. It also indicates that I am offline (which I am not). I uninstalled it and reinstalled it using the links provided on this thread. I also cleaned my registry and rebooted.

I have seen suggestions to clear out the xml files, but that appears to be accomplished through the Impulse interface. Since I am unable to launch Impulse, I obviously cannot use this method.

I would like to know how to load Impulse without hanging. Please.

How do I get Impulse to see that I have DA and TA installed? It shows that I have GC 11 installed but says “available” for the other two. They’re installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\TotalGaming, right where GC 11 is installed. If click on “My Games” in the Impulse dock, it says there’s and update to TA.

If I try to install TA it says it can’t find the DA install and ask me to navigate to where DA is installed. When I do it totally ignores the fact that I did, how rude.

Impulse locks up during installation.

It fully downloads and then locks up when installation is supposed to begin. Any tips to correct?

Two bugs:

1. If you maximize the Impulse window and then move the mouse to the side, the resize cursor comes up, even though you can't resize the window. It's particularly annoying when you want to restore the window by swinging the mouse to the top and double-clicking.

2. In the Chat area, maximizing then restoring the window will cut off the most recent line of chat.

Also, it would be nice if there was a way to turn off Cleartype. It really sucks on CRTs. Why doesn't it just take the Windows preferences?
July 5, 2008 23:36:28
I am having a straight compatibility issue. Impulse starts to load and then just gives me the old Impulse has encountered a problem and needs to close message. That is the only think I am getting.
July 6, 2008 01:36:34
I installed impulse and everything went well. I'm using Vista 32 + SP1. All my account information came over from my TGN subscription, but somehow Uplink is no longer associated with my account. It's installed on my system and Impulse claims there's an update, but asks for a serial number. I don't think I got a separate serial for Uplink. Do I just use my TGN serial number? My other TGN games are just listed as 'associated with account' so I don't know. Otherwise I like the upgrade.

I installed ToA with the CD. Impulse shows ToA as "available" and not installed.

I attempted to update GCII via Impulse. It shows that I need over 240mb to update. I decided to archive the ToA and GCII on a machine with a fast connection. I could not just grab the ToA. It wants me to install DA and DL first. So I do this and than archive everything. I am unable to install the anything from archive. I get "connecting ,please wait." I tried both on and offline with no sucess.

I ran the 200mb download for an hour (got 6%) and shutdown to see if it would resume from 0% or 6%. It restarts at 0%.

The "help" page did not work from either computer.

2 hours and still no 2nd update! I'm fed up as I'm not getting updates through SDC anymore. My sub is due next week - what's the point?

Purrdy,
Please uninstall Impulse and download the full installer again from here:
http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe
We have a new build out now that should resolve your issue.  Thank you for reporting the issue and please post back here how the new build works for you.

At last - I re downloaded full set up (first one corrupt) and Impulse is working! After a frustrating couple of months...

This issue is known and being looked into.

A fix for this has been incorporated into the latest build of Impulse.  Please update Impulse and you should see TotA show up as installed.

Impulse will not restore SDC files.  You will need to recreate your back-up files using Impulse.

Purchased TPM2008 and it doesn't show up anywhere in Impulse. (Well, besides the option to buy it again.)

This is my first install of Impulse, I have an email receipt and serial number for TPM2008.

I purchased it on July 2, and it's now July 7, but that shouldn't be a big problem, should it?

Though, that's why i ask for separate folders, there's no need of having .sdc backups with .impulse ones, if Impulse can't restore them ????it's just a source of errors and difficulties if once want to burn a SDC backup CD/DVD

tamalita,

Can you pleaes provide more information?  What is your connection to the internet?  Cable, modem, DSL?  Are you behind a proxy server?  If so, what is your proxy server information.  Where are you connecting from, country, state?

Which OS are you running?

It appears if you can start Impulse some of the time, but not others you may be having connectivity issues reaching our servers.  How does SDC work for you?

When you uninstall/reinstall did you use the web installer or full installer?  (The web one is under 2mb, the full is over 20mb).  If you used the web installer, please give the full installer a try, you may be missing files do to networking issues during install as well.  Here is the link to the full installer.

All,

We are currently prepairing to release a new version of Impulse with enhanced networking support.  If you have SDC and Impulse and SDC works for you from a connectivity perspective (downloading, etc.) then please bear with us until we release the new build very soon.  We believe that this new networking option will resolve 90% of the issues with connectivity.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Good point.  We have been researching how we might make SDC files restore from Impulse that is why we originally made the target folder the same.  However, if we reach a dead end in that effort we will seperate the folders.

Please check your registration tab to ensure that the registration is listed.  If not, please add your serial number manually there.
